Would any of you like to loose the ability to ride in the park? The High Sierra Hikers Association would like to limit the use of stock in the back country, they are a bunch of misinformed hikers that don't know the historical significance that stock use had to make this country available to everyone. If we sit back and say nothing we will loose here and it will spread to other areas as well. This is a subject close to my heart. It was sad to see the pack station in Mineral King go after MK was included in to the Park boundries. My father and other relatives worked many summers there throughout the century. Any ideas what I can do to help? I would hate to see the few pack stations that are left fall to the same fate. My aunt wrote a book about the "Mule Men of the Sierras" you might find interesting.http://www.mineralking.us/merchandise.htm
Have fun out there.
Here is one suggestion to call our senators,,,,,,,,,
If you don’t mind, I would like to offer a suggestion. If each person calls our two Senator’s offices to ask them to get involved, that would be a big help. Both are chairwomen of the committees of jurisdiction over the National Park Service. And both are of the same party as the President. A call from either of them to the Park Service may make a difference.

I see we're getting some views here and we are getting a lot of petitions signed, but we need more,,,,,this is so critical that we cannot afford to sit back and do nothing to stop these radicals from eliminating our use of the back country. Please send an email to our two senators and keep the pressure on!

Made the phone call and placed my concerns, heres to many more.
We had success but we're not out of the woods,,We need help to contact your Senators to get this passed in the Senate
Your help is needed.
The House passed a bill, HR 4849 which extends the permits for the commercial packers in the Sequoia Kings Canyon National Parks. This bill now goes to the Senate.
It is very important to contact Senators Boxer and Feinstein and ask them to support House bill HR4949 and pass it by unanimous consent . It is very important that the bill has no changes made to the wording.
If this bill is changed in the Senate then there will not be enough support for the bill to again make it through the House. The Senate will come back in session on Monday May 7th. Please contact the Senators as soon as you possibly can. We need this bill passed and signed by the President before May 23rd.
