Bingo first of the year! Waited and tried with my bow at first but I could not get him and his buddy to come in closer so I pulled out my mossberg 535 and popped this guy dead at 46 yards exactly his beard seemed to be burned or ripped off but 1' spurs and pretty damn heavy! I took this bird in the same spot I got my two last year in Hunters valley In Mariposa county! Good luck out there!

You guys are probably right His buddy that was with him had a longer beard but he did not want to play! The bird I shot was getting pretty crazy with my jake decoy for a while until I got a good shot

Got my first turkey near Lake Oroville at 7 am this morning. My buddy got one and then 30 minutes later and a short hike I got mine with a great shot. He isn't a big old tom, but he sure will taste good.

I got one yesterday morning! Hes a heavy bodied bird with a 5" beard... there was a couple other big boys but got hung up at about 80 yards and wouldn't come in, i waited for about an hour watching 6 jakes strut and beat my decoy before the big boys took off... so i took the biggest one that was in range! not bad for opening weekend! still got plenty of time to get the boss tom!

2012 harvest - I had a chance to rendezvous with my two best friends in Oklahoma City for a little bit of R&R....... turkey hunting style. :)

My friend Pete lives in OKC, and hosted the trip. He is friends with a few land owners, so he took us out to some private land around Minco and Paul's Valley. We hunted Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The final tally was two nice toms on Friday (9"+ beards), two jakes on Saturday, and another big tom on Sunday to round out the bag at five birds in three days.

There were five hunters total, with two being virgins. We spent the time splitting up into various groups for different locations and blinds, but I happened to have the good fortune to have called in all the turkeys (dumb luck, I assure you:))..... However, the bottom line for the weekend was that if you wanted a bird, you needed me in the blind to get it.

    Here are some pics:

    Friday tom #1:

Same blind as above, two hours later. Friday tom #2:

Saturday's jakes, including Vic's first ever turkey. I called in a trio, but there were only two of us in the blind:

Sunday tom, Michael's first ever turkey:
Love is not the dying moan of a distant violin, it’s the triumphant twang of a bedspring.
