Well, with plans to hunt with Ltdan and crew this coming weekend and have lobster dinner, it was get out there and catch some bugs Sunday If I showed up bugless, I think I’d be in for another incident of getting shot at but this time, it would be my “friends” doing the shooting and they likely wouldn’t miss. So in spite of the clouds and cold wind, we met at 6:30 am in the dark with a heavily overcast sky. We loaded up and did a quick run out of MDR into the Bay.
On the way out we saw more cormorants rafted up together than I’d seen before. Numerous flights of them were coming in and landing. We figured it was food or sex; we hung around a bit but neither activity was apparent.

So we headed up N. to some rock piles. The water was an unwelcoming shade of green but we geared up and into soup we went. The temperature at 70 fsw was a cool 50 degrees and visibility was 6-8 feet, enough to see/grab bugs but certainly nothing to write home about.… Patrick and I grabbed our limit of bugs in a couple of dive and interestingly, every one was a male. The females have now mainly bred and have “moved on”

On the way back into MDR, we were entertained by a set of sea lions practicing for the synchronized swimming at the Olympics. There were sea lions on a dock in MDR and two had neck wraps from fishing nets/fishing line. Not pretty. We see this more commonly than you’d think. Don’t throw that old fishing line, netting, 6 pack rings (or any plastic) in the ocean, take it home guys/gals. Please.Neck wrap.jpg

Thanks for sharing Andy! I hope the guys enjoyed those lobsters as much as my family and I enjoyed the ones you gave us! We were so blessed to have those bugs on Christmas day! It was really great.

Good luck Andy. Hope you and ltdann find some success this weekend.
Have fun out there.
Have fun guys (looks like you'll eat well).
Think me not unkind and rude,
That I walk alone through grove and glen.
I go to seek the God of the wood,
And fetch His word to men.
HI Woody. Next time, plan to come, spend the day "at the beach" and stay for dinner and go home after the traffic. You and your familiy are welcome anytime. And lets go goose hunting next season, the Admiral and I would love to give that a "shot" (or two or three or maybe dozens....)
As for the coming VAFB trip, thanks for the good wishes K-rad, cjack and inchr48. It looks like a wet one - ugh. I'm pretty "ok" on hog right now but I'm hoping to have the chance to spend a good amount of time (in the rain?) just scouting about and learning the lay of the land - nothing like boots on the ground to really know what is what. Since it is St. Patricks day, I'm going to have to be careful - if I were to shoot a St. Patrick's Pig to go with my Valentine's day pig, I'll get in trouble - Again! So if any pig is wearing green, I'll either pass on it or undress it before I take it's photo.. Lies to follow after the hunt....
Good luck Andy, and that is sad about the sea lions, and dont just throw the six pack holder's away, before discarding cut or brake all rings.
