    Default Turkey Taxidermist

Ok, so Im thinking way a head. I hope to get my first gobbler this year and really want to have it mounted. Who knows of a decent taxidermist around Stockton or Sacramento area, and what's the going price for a full mount.

Wish I could help you. I'm from So Cal. and a good friend of mine from here goes all of the way to Oregon to get his turkeys done. Seems there would be a good one in your area being the hotbed of turkey activity!
    Have fun out there.

You might check out Whifflemaster North of you, or Fins, Fur and Feathers in Colusa. Dennis Courier and Brent Nobles have both studied under Stefan Savides. I do Turkeys, but I'm 4 hours south of Sac.

Dicks Taxidermy on Douglas Blvd Roseville. He has done two mounts for me, and always top notch. He sends out the head to be skinned and then put on mold for paint. A lot of taxidermists simply replace head with a pre formed mold, looks really fake when you get close to it

Mounts two years ago wer around 6-800 bucks

Have to agree, freeze dried heads are the way to go, it's all we use. I've used cast heads, but they lack the feathers, natural beak coloration, and fine details. Here's some pics to compare, unpainted...FDTurk1.jpgFDTurk2.jpgFDTurk3.jpgFDTurk4.jpg

Wow, checked his prices $1100 - $1400. That's more then I want to spend on a turkey mount. I'm sure they are difficult and would look great, but not for the price.

Mel, don't give up. $600.00 to $800.00 would be industry standard. I charge $700.00. There's more time involved than a deer head, that's why the cost. $1100.00 to $1400.00 is high, the best in the industry don't make that. Taxidermists will sometimes price themselves out of the market, as opposed to saying, "we don't do Turkey's". Call the guys I mentioned, I know they've done'em in the past...as have I...22lb Rio, Thanksgiving guest...

Atwater, thanks! I'll check out those you mentioned. I did find a guy north of me for $475 strutting mount.

I just dropped off a gobbler at Taws taxidermy in Marysville, CA. He has done mounts for me in the past. He is very professional and does great work at reasonable rates. I also have multiple friends who have had work done by him, and work always comes out top notch.
