Default Not many duck pics this year?

Seems like alot of guys on the forum have left or just don't visit anymore. Hope everyone has a good end to the season. It has been a wierd one, but overall it's actually turned out better than last year for us. SAC 2012.jpgLast weekend was great with the weather, here is a pic of our hunt on Saturday. Got a banded pintail on the hunt that was 8 1/2 years old too!

Good eatin'... duck season is long-forgotten up here in Oregon, unless I want to illegally shoot the mallard, widgeon and canada geese up here in Mirror Pond

Does seem like a lot of the old timers have left. As far as duck pix, this year has not provided much to take pictures of. Hoping this weekend to get something worthy of a photograph.

Here's a pic for ya. I had never shot a wood duck before so went to northern Cal. looking for them. Thought I was totally lucky to get one then by two hours later I had four and a banded one. Got the info back on the banded one. Banded in Porthill Idaho last August, a first year bird but the color was still amazing, saving one of the others for the wall, the top one in the pic I think. If anyone is hunting Kern this Saturday, I was there yesterday and if you hunted all day it was limit hunting for teal and spoonys. The mallards and pins didn't play well but ended up with 3 widgeon, drake GWT, a nice drake cinn. teal, and since it looked like no other birds were interested in the last 20 minutes added a drake spoony to the mix. Bob said 12 specks had been taken and when I was turninig in my card two more guys came in with specks. Two first year birds that landed in their duck dekes at noon!wood_ducks_and_jewelry.jpg

For whatever reason(s), the ducks are not there for us at Los Banos. Years before, we were limiting or getting near-limits. This year has sucked. There are so fewer teal ducks. We always want to second-guess ourselves about whether we're doing something wrong when the ducks are not coming to our spread. But, we are doing the exact same things we've done the previous years. Whatever it is, it appears that this year is a very slow year for ducks.

I took these 1-8-12 1 pin, 1 gad, 2gwt, and a sweet triple on the widgon. I was out by 9:30. The day before, 5 gwt, & 1 pin. The following weekend on sat. 2 pintail, 1 gad. Sunday zip---- This weekend I will be out from first light till dark both days. "If that's what it takes to get just one!"
Good luck to all who give it a shot.IMG_2603.jpgIMG_2608.jpg

Still happy about our CWA hunt last weekend. Although the rest of the season stunk we at least finished with a load of Mallards! My son drew a #4 at Kern for next weekend JR hunt but can;t go cause he got in trouble at school. BOY IS HE SORRY!

Wow k_rad thats one happy kid and your doing a great job at raising that youngster. If I remember correctly this isn't the first time you've had him sit out a hunt. Good lessons go a long way in life and they always remember the good times like last weekend. Congratulations!
    Have fun out there.

Just haven't really taken too many pics this year except a couple of time to harass a friend of mine that flaked out. Did shoot a 8min, 10shell limit about a week ago teals and wigeon. I didn't hunt as much this year but managed limits most days with a couple of slow mornings mixed in.

OK, finally got a shoot in with results worthy of some pics. Closing Saturday in the bypass with my son and a buddy's son.
