Myself and the boy are meeting a couple buddies for the long weekend. If you are up there we will be in either a green tahoe or grey silverado. Stop by and say whats up maybe we can pass on some info. We will be in the C zones and maybe jump towards the beach if need be. Good luck if you are going to be hunting.
Hopefully you will see something; it's been pretty slim for a couple of weeks. Be warned that what we are (mostly) seeing are sows with LITTLE babies. Five pounds at most.
That said; my hunting partner shot a decent boar last night. Story to follow later......
It's good to have a plan. That way you have something to change.......
Thanks for the hospitality Alan! We had a good weekend.
How did you fair on your hunt?
The base was overrun with hunters this weekend. Lots of hogs sighted and several hit the ground. I'm guessing between 4 and 8 hogs were killed. One nice boar; only 127 lbs. gutted but had great cutters. The guy who got it is going to have it mounted. Some knucklehead activity that occasionally happens when so many hunters are rubbing up against each other. I stayed out of the woods this weekend because of it.

Yeah i almost never hunt there over a big weekend, way to crazy for my blood.
Rooster we shot 3, 2 boar and a sow. One good boar that we couldnt get weighed in but had to be in the 200 pound range. Ill put some pictures up soon. We were in c3 and there were alot of people but the area we were in nobody had been into. We ran into pigs everytime out. We did see two more really big boar that i missjudged the yardage on and fudged the shots. saw some really nice bucks as well!

Did they do away with the weighing in of hogs after hours? We used to have to call the duty conservation guy or wait till morning.
We saw a bunch of guys running around without orange on and I know when we checked in they made sure we had ours.
That place is confusing sometimes.

Yeah both evenings they just said we could drive around back to see if there was a scale left out but if not just swing by in the morning and give them the details. not sure with the orange as far as i knew it was just during deer season. i guess i will have to look the regs over! i am not a fan of having run ins with L.O.!!!!
Weighing in is at the discretion of the LE officer on duty. Orange is mandatory year 'round.

Ok, its not just me then. I thought I'd read that orange was now required year around. Didn't know about the discreationary check of pigs. Makes sense though, no place on the tag to countersign.

I heard rumor that there were a couple of guys who shot hogs and couldn't drag them out of their area because they were "too heavy". Anyone here of this happening?
I havent heard anything about guys not being able to drag out hogs this year but last year i ran into a fella that couldnt drag out a buck. Ive taken five hours dragging hogs out of areas there that werent more than a mile from my truck. Sometimes hunting alone isnt fun!
Never heard that. I'm with rooster. Last pig I shot took 4.5 hours to get out, and that was with 2 of us and a cart.
I've never even run into a pig carcass anywhere.

We've seen many hogs in areas that simply are impossible to recover. Call me lazy; but my hunting partner and I won't even consider shooting a hog where it's so tough to get 'em out. Fish and Game has, in the past, helped hunters recover animals that were either shot in a bad locale or ran in to the "thick and nasty" after being hit. Last February we killed a monster hog--262 lbs. gutted--that took us two hours to haul 100 yards. My back still hurts just thinking about it.......

Nice hogs! Alan, we took your advice just before Christmas and opportunity presented itself but missed. Hope to be back before March. BTW, a winch is a damn good investment.
I've taken deer and hogs into the gameshack in pieces after getting permission. Sometimes it's the only way, especially if you're alone.

I agree. I'm a shoot first ask questions later kind of hunter. I'd never pass a shot because I was worried about the long trip back to the truck. But I'm always prepared.
Leaving an animal is completely unacceptable and illegal, I hope that didn't happen.

And you have a lot more time to hunt hogs than I do!

I try hard not to forget that little factoid. It's sometimes hard to believe that I do have such access. Steve and I both feel fortunate to be able to hunt this beautiful piece of land, and try to do what we can to provide opportunities to people that can't be up here all of the time. He and I could shoot literally hundreds of hogs a year but choose to be very selective in what we take. After all; it's the hunt and just seeing the hogs that turns my crank. Once you pull the trigger it's just work (I do enjoy the whole process). I've talked to you enough to know that you "get it".

You have all that time to hunt allan, yet every time im there you dont have anything tied to a tree for me! Im trying to take leave next month for a few days to put some wild pork in the freezer.
