My son got his first blacktail on a late season Trinity county hunt. We ate our thanksgiving dinner and headed up for our hunt. The fog was bad, but we found this one after the fog lifted. I was surprised that we got stopped by a warden about 20 minutes after deer was taken. All was good warden was surprised to see us, he also stopped us with my sons elk taken on the same ridge.
CONGRATS to both of you!! You never forget your first.

A Sunday school teacher asked, "Johnny, do you think Noah did a lot of fishing when he was on the Ark ?"
"No," replied Johnny. "How could he, with just two worms."
I am going to put my son in for that hunt next year.
Curious if you passed up deer or took the first? General Location?
I was going to try to get out and scout this weekend. Was going to check bowerman ridge area and Trinity Center while looking for bears. Might swing back through french gulch since we have no snow yet.
Knowing some of the bomber bucks that live around here, it could be a great chance at a first buck and or a huge buck.
Congrats to the hunter. What was the story on the Elk? I need to take full advantage of the youth hunts.
Vegetarian: Old Indian word for bad hunter.
very cool ,,,, nice buck and neat pic
Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Some of my most memorable hunts are with my kids.
My brother and I drew that hunt the first year that they ever offered it to junior hunters. I want to say that it was in 1992... We passed up multiple bucks each day, and I ended up shooting my first ever deer. I can remember that it was early December in a snowstorm. Here's a picture of him. He's actually a 4x3 with double eye guards, but the fourth point is somewhat hidden from view... What was really unique about him was how much his rack resembled a whitetail's... We hunted the eastern side of Trinity Lake on over into French Gulch. My buck came from Papoose Creek. My brother shot a very nice 3x3, but I don't recall now where he shot it... Awesome hunt!
