Default Spot & Stalk daypack question

Say you're heading out for the day in search of deer, boar or bear. What do you carry with you? My pack is overloaded...figure some of you guys have probably learned what is essential and what isn't. I am agonizing over optics (RF, Binos, Spotting scope) and first aid stuff and foam pad (for sitting if seeing an ambush opp) and flashlights/batteries. What's your definitive list look like? TIA
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.

The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000. The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.

My binos and rf are not inside my pack.

I keep the bare min in case I have to stay out overnight.

Okay...I wear a harness for the binos and my RF sits in the belt pocket on my pack. The spotting scope is new...never used it. Just trying to formulate a smart list w/o breaking my back.

I use a lumbar pack with shoulder straps since it's light weight, carries a bit, has straps to carry out a load. I use the "rule of thumb" for rangefinding, and I have a set of 8X25 binos that I wear on a harness. I carry enough water for about 5 hours and a personal first aid kit. Also a folding knife, 10 extra rounds, 35' of cordage, game bags (for quartering) and a fire-starting kit. Lastly, a lightweight LED headlamp. I don't carry extra batteries, anything to sit on or to wipe with (you can always use your sock). Water's the heaviest thing I carry.

    my $0.02

    Two questions:

    1. What is "the rule of thumb" for rangefinding? (BTW, I'm bowhunting)
    2. Who washes your socks.

I use a Eberlestock Blue Widdow pack..
    • Binos on harness
    • Rangefinder on belt
    • first aid kit
    • paracord
    • ink pen
    • hunt lic/tag
    • electrical tape
    • knife
    • small bone saw
    • latex gloves
    • game socks
    • appropriate food.. usually just a bunch of granola bars and such.
    • appropriate water (it has been hot so I been taking a lot of water which is heavy)
    • wind duster windicator thingy
    • camera
    • cell phone
    • TP for my bunghole
    • small bottle of scent killer
    • Bow/arrows/release, or rifle/ammo/shooting stix
Water is really what adds the weight.. on hot days I take up to 170oz.. Some might say I carry too much stuff but I've never felt unprepared (except for running out of water a couple times).

There is a link that's not quite showing up in my post about the rule of thumb, but here it is:

Who washes socks when they're $2.00 for 1/2 dozen?
