Hey Mel, my buddy has that rifle and I shoot his better than my own. He did have a problem with the mounts, scope kept moving on him. So bad that it bent the tube and ruined his scope. When he was shooting his groups he would get 2 good shoots almost in the same hole, we were going crazy. Weird thing is only one of the rings was letting go. I would check the mount and scope, that rifle should shoot anything. Good luck see you on the hunt. My rifle all done and ready to rock with 150gr etip.
Do you have another scope you can try on tis rifle?
If I knew foresure my mounts and rings were tight Then I would try a scope I know holds a good zero . I find it hard to belive the rifle wont group better than that.
I can take the one off my 300 mag and try that one if I can't get it to group on the next ammo.
I may just take the scope off and Exchange it, I don't want to tear my other gun down.
I've been looking at some reviews on the Tikka and seeing if anyone is having grouping issues. Seems like its what we have been talking about, finding an ammo it likes. Some people were getting 3-4" groups with one bullet and MOA on others. Gonna try a few different brands before I start leaning towards the scope. I did find some cool scope mounts that had great reviews, I think they were DNZ mounts.
DNZ make quality base and rings. Are you considering the one piece base and ring rig? I had some questions about the few months ago.
I hope it is just the ammo Mell, sure would suck to have a crap scope. but that group you posted just flat out sucked. I bet if you shot federal premium with the barnes TSX it would stay in the red. LOL
I actually talked to the place I got the gun and scope from, they want to take a look at it. They may exchange out the scope, but i'm leaning more towards the ammo. I'll shoot it again on Tuesday, i'm working all weekend and that's the first day I have.
Remember, one variable at a time. I'm sure you'll get the combo going. Shooting is the fun part anyway, right? Best of luck.

Go cheap buy Remington green box, they'll shoot well out of just about anything. If you continue to have problems I'll lend you an older Bushnell I have to test the scope theroy.
yea , since you dont want to shoot copper anyways i would try a couple of different cheap ammo like green box rem and federal fusion before I jumped on the $40 a box federal premium with TSX. When I tried the federal fusion out of my 700 I was shocked. After shooting about 4 different brands of ammo and some reloads my brother reloads for his gun and getting 3 inch groupes out of it. then bang 5 shots inside a inch with the fusion. My 700 just doesnt seem to like 180 gr bullets but will shoot the 165 gr fusion like a champ. On a good day I can get three in the same hole, but that doesnt happen often. You will find somthing she likes it just takes time.
Bought a box of the Nosler Accubond, if these don'w work then i'll go to the fusion or remington. I'll let you guys know.
Thanks!!!
Ok, well I went hunting today and decided to do a little work on the Tikka after the morning hunt. I bought a box of the 165 grain Nosler Accubond, she likes it. First two shots I wasn't really solid and felt it when I shot, the rest were solid.
Here's my 8 shot group with the top two shots being my first two where I didn't feel steady. The others were after I steadied up, total 8 shots 5 in the same hole or very close.
Here's my group at 200 yards, one shot which I covered up by you can see in the picture, I pulled the shot. The other 2 were dead solid.
So, I'm going to stick with the Accubonds, great bullet and I'm happy with the accuracy. Now this will become my main hunting rig.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions.
That looks great Mel. The Hogs will be droping in Oct!!!
Almost dropped some this morning. Seen about 10 of them first light, just couldn't get a shot.
looks good Mel, funny how a rifle can shoot one ammo so crappy then group well with the next. put that accubond in the bread box and pigs will die.
Thank god you didn't have to go thru 1/2 dozen brands. That's awesome grouping. With the right ammo, Tikka drives tacks.
Life's short . . . Hunt hard
Why tip-toe quietly through life, only to arrive safely at death ?
I have to agree with LTDann, I have a few 1/4 empty boxes of 30-06 ammo my gun wont shoot for crap. I think your group will tiohten up off the bench. and it will give you a chance to see what she does at 200 and 300 yards.
Hopefully I don't have too much of a problem going to copper with my 300 mag. I'm going to try the TTSX first, then TSX and the Etip last. Winchester ammo never really shot good out of it.
Great news! We always hope our newest gun shoots well for us.
Looks like meat in the freezer.

Wow that's great Mel! Glad tou got that streightened out!
catchdog,
Just thought I would let you know, I bought some 165 grain TSX for my 300 mag. Highly impressed with the accuracy, MOA at 200 yards and shooting about 6" low at 300. I was shooting the 180 grain Nosler Patitions, the TSX have the exact same POA with no adjustments needed. I may just by some for the Tikka and see if I get the same results.
thats great Mel, now if you hunt in the lead free zone you can just grab your barnes bullets and go. Heck yea give them a try in the .308. the accubond is a great bullet I picked some up to try in my wifes 7mmo8 but have not shot any yet. I know alot of people dont like barnes but I'm a big fan. We shoot them when we could shot lead . 12 large game animals shot with a 7mm08 with TSX and 9 were bang flop. The longest run after a shot was 90 yards and that was a blue wildebeest and they are a tough critters. We have had nothing but good luck with them. But as you know shot placement is the key.
Anymore to say about that Redfield scope after having it for a while?
I'm considering a 3x9x40 Redfield Revolution with the Accu-Rnge reticle on a 30-06.
It's great. I placed a target out to 400 yards, used the dot which is for 400 yards, it was dead on. I bought the same scope for my 300 mag. Can't go wrong.
