    Default Twisselman Ranch success

8-06-11 My father and I met Andrew Twisselman at 4:45 am at the ranch in Central California. To my knowledge I am the only person that has ever hunted with them with a crossbow. Not many guides locally are very crossbow friendly so I have tried to support the ones who are. Andrew took us to a blind that was near a well used trail. The wild pigs go back and forth between the barley fields getting nice and plump. I took out my rangefinder and ranged some likely spots. We waited for several hours and nothing came by. It was around 8 am now and I was getting kinda worried. Just about when I thought my chances had dissapeared I saw a black mass coming by. It was a nice black pig and several small ones. I thought it might be a sow and her piglets. I looked and it was clear that she was a dry sow and the little ones were bigger than I first thought. I started to stand up to clear some bushes and the little ones squealed and ran a little ways. The nice black one grunted and ran a few yards up a hill then turned perfectly broadside to me. I put the top cross hair of the Hawke XB-30 behind her shoulder and pulled the trigger. The Excal Equinox sent the Swhacker tipped powerbolt to its mark. The pig ran about 50 yards and tipped over. It was a perfect double lung hit. The arrow went right through her. I went and got my arrow then got a few pics with the pig. The Swhacker cut 2 ribs almost in half on the exit. What a nasty cut.

Nice! That broadhead looks like it did more damage then your typical copper rifle round!

It costs 500 for a 2 day hunt. You can also stay at the ranch for free. One of the better deals around. The pigs are seasonal. They are there right now because of the barley fields. They get nice and fatty eating that stuff. He also has exotic goats. You can find them on facebook. Look up Carrisa plains and it should pop up. He does also have a website..I can't remeber the exact site right now.

People will typically talk about a topic to show how much they know.
What they don't realize is their talking actually reveals how much they don't know.

I hunted with Andrew in May we only saw a few pigs but Andrew busted his butt trying to put us on pigs. We went and shot a few goats before we left which was pretty fun but i dont think i will do again. Give him a call you will have a great time.
