Default 7.62x39 enough for a Sheep?

I have a CZ527 in 7.62x39. I would like to know if this caliber is enough to take a Sheep at a place like Big Horn Canyon ranch? I know the caliber is good enough for deer and pig out 100 yards but will it work on sheep?

If not it may finally be a good enough excuse to buy that 30.06 I have been eyeing.
    All help thanks.

Yes that is plenty for BHCR. Go out there and have fun.
What bullets will you be using? Any soft-point lead bullets will work. Dont use FMJ's

I asked Charlie about this at a Fred Hall show a couple of years ago. He mentioned using a bow. I asked about a rifle his response with a sour look on his face was "a .223 would be plenty'.

Thank for the info. I know its going to be easier then chasing them across the desert but I have to start somewhere right?

As far as ammo, I am paying a pretty penny but I have some Federal Power shock, Rem Core-Lokt, and need to source a few more loads to determine which one shoots best.

Ammo should be pretty inexpensive in Lead Soft-Point loads. Its when you start needing Lead-free is when you have to shell out the dough.

I suppose it is relative you you guys hehe. I am used to plinking ammo in .223 and 9mm, at worst $.35 a round is expensive. Most expensive I have so far is $1.35 a round. Thankfully I don't have to go leadfree, yet.

You're doing the right thing by buying different Brands/types of ammo to try. Sure, you'll spend some money now, but finding the load your gun will shoot well is priceless.

Plus if you're like me, you like to shoot. I never gripe about the expense of buying ammo. It would be like my golfing friends griping about having to buy a sleeve of balls.

The only sheep I've shot was a BBQ candidate that escaped from the neighbor's into our pasture. A 5MM Remington Magnum (rimfire) behind the ear, and it was time to start the fire.
Think me not unkind and rude,

That I walk alone through grove and glen.

I go to seek the God of the wood,

And fetch His word to men.

But then inchr48, you are not in condor country where instead of shooting a .270 for about 95 cents a round you are forced to shoot unleaded at more than $2 a round.

    I reload now.
