Back to square one. My Sitka Gear is okay for light rain but the rain gear they sold me is way too noisy for field work so now i am back to basics and looking for a good, reliable Mossy Oak Gortex jacket and pants suitable for hunting in winter...heading to Redding for pigs in Feb. Suggestions? Durability and silence are of utmost importance.
Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some.
The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000. The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000.
if it is that wet and rainy than why do you need something so quiet? I can see if it is like really loud, but all rain gear is going to be noisy if the rain gear is working like it should.
look into rivers west outer wear it is unbeliveable it tear proff and i have a set and wont go with out it its costly but worth it
Rich
Actually that's not true. My guide was wearing some Gortex gear that was absolutely silent. I had to peel off my Sitka Gear rainsuit because the light rain was nothing next to the noise coming off me. I know there is Gortex gear that is both quiet and rainproof (making it good for dry days too) and this is a pattern I need a jacket in anyway.

storm kloth????
cabelas??
.. any more it seems difficult to find semi light weight rain wear that you can hike in and keeps you fully dry without having to spend $500 plus..
maybe look into kuiu
Do it well.

Bruce, my suggestion is to look through what Cabela's has to offer, and then call them and ask for a product specialist; they can explain all the ins and out in detail.
Anyone own this?
Cabela's: Cabela's Revolution™ Fleece Dry-Plus® Uninsulated Full-Zip Jacket
Seems to have mixed reviews. Is it loud?

Bruce, I have a couple Cabela's parkas, but I'm going to have to pull them out of storage; so give me a couple of days to get back to you on exactly what they are. But in short, there low nap waterproof, breathable, and quiet, non-insulted.
Simpatex or Goretex, both are pretty much the same thing, but here are a few of my observations on them. The colder they get/it is, the stiffer they get, and subsequently they do get a tid bit noisier (nothing is perfect). You do not want to wear them next to a camp fire, as the Goretex will in effect melt; this isn't exactly true but here is a good analogy about the waterproof yet breathable materials like Goretex, think of it as a plastic that is stretched and tiny holes punched through it just large enough to allow vapor through but not liquid; thus the plastic waterproofing can melt, same with boots or anything else that uses gore type products.
Personally if I were looking to buy new waterproof hunting wear, I would be looking at Cabela's as I described I have; you just can't go wrong. However I would be getting the new "high desert" pattern as it's the most versatile for the majority of the places I hunt. And considering their return policy, buying Cabela's brand is a no brainier.
Thanks a lot!

Dry-Plus does not work for waterproofing. You need to stick with Gortex.

If you haven't yet you should check out Brownings new Deluge or Illusion both available in Mossy Oak Break Up Infinity. Browning has really upped their game in the clothing market as of late!
