    Default Yellowstone

Going to Yellowstone for ten days with the family for our big summer camping trip. I have not been fly fishing there so if anyone has the good hot spots to hit I would surely appreciate it. I leave on June 26th. Any advice would be appreciated.

K-Rad, so at that time you'll be limited to the Madison and Gallatin. The Buffalo Ford area of the Yellowstone River opens July 15th. I don't know when Slough Creek opens, but if it is, try that for cutt's. The Madison Junction is a good place to hit, where the Gallatin flows into the Madison. Outside the park in the West Yellowstone area, you have the Madison at Slide Ranch. Golden Stones, caddis and Salmonflies. Bud Lilly's trout shop or Yellowstone Angler in West Yellowstone are good shops to hit. Used to help in a flyfishing school out there for years and that is just one of my favorite places of all to flyfish.

So of coarse had the family trip of a lifetime. Not so much fishing as the water was high and the kids patience was short but had some incredible wilslife sightings and great fishing at Henry's fork in Idaho. Wife saw her first ever bears. She has never seen one in the wild and man did she get an eyefull. 6 Grizzly's in one day! one with cubs eating an elk calf! Amazing trip. Also met some ranch owners in Montana and was invited to come hunting. Went through my favorite place in the world, Bozeman Montana. That place is heavan on earth! Here are some pics

Oh and had a 2000lb Buffalo walk through the camp sight. Found out more people are hurt by buffalo in Yellowstone then any other animal... They think their pets and walk right up to take a picture!

Awesome! Glad you had a great trip. My brother has a great "almost eaten by a grizzly and then stomped by a buffalo within 10 minutes of each other" story, but the great cutthroat fishing helped him forget all that.

Wish I would have seen this post earlier. There is a GREAT cut throat hole in the Yellowstone River about 200 yards upstream from the waterfalls, in the tail out of the lake itself. Had to stare down an elk cow once to fish there. She won.

200 yds....you couldn't get me in the water that close to those falls-- hell I don't like being on the overlook trail...

I want to go. Great photos! You took 10 days so how many of those days were for driving?

This will require some planning in a few years...

Glad you and your family had a good time!

I went there with my family when I was a pre-teen. The sceneray and animals were amazing. I saw
my first moose in Yellowstone. We went the Wyoming route and camped at the lake in front of the Grand Tetons.

    I gotta get back there.
