It was my 5th choice, but I'm not complaining! Never been to this corner of NV, but always up to learning new ground. I have hunted deer and antelope in around Likely and Cedarville, CA when I lived in Calif. Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions for goat hunting in Area 11?
Plenty of speed goats in that area but I normally see them across on the West side of the 93. But don't get me wrong, they are on both sides. I would work on getting access with the ranchers now if you can. Nice bucks come out of there. Good Luck to you.![]()

Hey bull I drew a tag there as well. Where are you from?
You might get a few more responses if you say unit 011, instead of 11. Most guys know that unit as 011. The 11's are over near Ely. I haven't hunted that unit, but have hunted several to the south of there. Those units are all good, and have nice bucks in every one of them.
011 is a solid area. You have the CA border to your west and OR border to your north. LOTS of goats in that area. I would recommend getting up to 011 this summer and spend a few days scouting. sure is pretty county up in that area. The Sheldons are awesome, but 011 excludes it. Good luck and if you need more help, ask away...

Hey Hoghunter you've got mail!
Good Luck Guys..I had 8pts this year for NV. goats and didn't get my tag!I hope you get some good ones and hopefully I'll be asking you guys this question next season for 011,that was my first choice this season....Post up the pic's come late Aug/Sept....
Duknutz, don't feel bad, I did not draw with 12 points.
How insane is it that you guys with more than 10 points didn't draw a tag? This is my third year but I don't think 011 was my first choice. I was feeling pretty good that my FIL and BIL didn't draw tags but now feel bad for you guys.
I'll do my best to be ready with info next year. I see on the hunt Nevada web site that I have to wait until 2016 to draw again. Can anyone confirm that I have to wait until then to even put in or can I buy 6 years worth of bonus points?
Man DLS, you would think you could get a Sheldon tag with those points...I gave up on Sheldon due to the amount of people putting in now for that unit,I dont want to wait another 10 years.I'll shoot for a 011,12-15,etc. from here on out.
Cammy,no worries...good luck and let us know how it turns out! DLS and I will get it some day....hopefully sooner than later....I really wanted to chase goats this year, since I wasn't going to chase elk ......But all is not lost... we drew the G37 late hunt in CA. this year.Time is going to be spent on making that one happen.
Cammy, with a rifle tag you have to wait 5 years(no bonus points). With an archery tag you have wait 5 years(no bonus points) only if you are succesful in killing an antelope.
So if I don't report the kill I'm back in the mix eh?
I wonder if I can put in while I'm in jail for not reporting the kill![]()
Bull fries,email sent.
Cammy,
You might have to check on out of state applications but for residents once you pull the longer than ear tag and fill it you have to wait the five years but you can still put in and get your shorter than ears tag for speed goats. Might be worth checking into if you enjoy hunting them.

Thanks Superduty. I won't know if I enjoy hunting them until August as this is my first ever 'lope hunt.
I see your in Elko county, how close to Elko do you live? My wifes cousin used to be a sherriff deputy and still lives in Elko. I've been there once several years ago. Nice town!

[QUOTE=cammy;2219601]So if I don't report the kill I'm back in the mix eh?
Only if you drew the archery tag. There is a loop hole in the system when it comes to the archery tag. I'm sure there are a few dishonest bowhunters out there that are killing antelope on archery tags and not reporting it so they can bypass the waiting period. I think there should be a 2 year waiting period for archery tags.
You will probably love hunting lope's. I live up against the Rubie's just 26 or so miles outside the town of Elko.<TABLE class=tborder style="BORDER-TOP-WIDTH: 0px" cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR title="Post 2220340" vAlign=top><TD class=alt2 align=middle width=125>cammy</TD><TD class=alt1>Thanks Superduty. Cammy,
I live outside of Reno. So you're from Woodbridge, CA? I grew up in Elk Grove (actually Wilton). Are you planning any scouting trips to Unit 11 prior to antelope season? I will make a couple of scouting trips starting in late July. I'll email you my cell number so we can stay in touch.
-Mike
Hey Mike! Wilton eh? Been through that are ALOT! In fact the last time I was out there I went to that skeet/trap range just out of town. My son and I did a charity trap shoot for the Ed Waldo Foundation.
My wife and I are leaving Friday night to head up that way. We will probably grab a room in Reno hit Cabelas and head out Saturday morning. I don't plan on this being a monster scout trip. The wife likes to get out of the house so I thought I would take her along for a quick look.
PM me your info and maybe we can hook up in August and compare goats.
Cammy,
The trap range you talking about- was it Alta Mesa Gun Club in Wilton? If so,I was a member and my best friend since grammer school is the past president and a board member. I know many of the long time members.
Let me know how you first scouting trip goes.
Mike
Yep Alta Mesa Gun Club that was the place. I'll be sure to send the 411 on the trip this weekend.
We got a ranch up in that corner of the state. About 7 miles from CA state line and about 16 miles south of the OR. state line. Near that infamous Sheldon refuge in a small town called Vya NV, in Long Valley.
I have personally seen lots of antelope on our property and in the valley which is mostly BLM. We regulary rent out a fully furnished cabin with 2 bedrooms, a big loft, a bathroom and shower, satelite TV, kitchen, sofas, etc. The rates would beat most all comparable ranches, by a large margin. PM me if your curious and I will find out if there are open dates during your hunts. Typically we rent it out to 4-6 different groups a hunting season.
Lives2 hunt, are you talking about the Yellow Dog Ranch?
Cammy- Just wanted to give you big thanks for the advice on the area south of the Refuge- rough country, but only one other hunter encountered! Saw a handful of shooter bucks the first weekend trip up there, but was holding out for a something bigger. Unfortunately, as you know, could not make another trip up there my my Dad passed away unexpectedly on Thurs. Sept. 2 within an hour of the time I was set to leave. Even though I go back to zero pref points, I can put in next year for a buck antelope since I did not harvest one this year, and my wife has a good chance of drawing a tag within next couple years.
Also wanted to thank you for offering to share some of your antelope meat with me- awesome gesture! Since it was your first one, wanted you to be able to enjoy that meat. One of my wife's employee's brother filled his NV antelope tag and shared some steaks and salami with me.
Maybe we can meet up at the Alta Mesa Gun Club sometime. At least let me know next time you head over to the "Gun Club", I know all the Directors (one is my best friend since 6th grade!) and I'll try to make sure you get the VIP treatment!
