    Default Monterey bay salmon reports

Bite in monterey bay picked up today. The squid is comming in and the squid boats are following. Rumors of easy limits off the point. I took my boat last weekend off muligans (saturday) and I picked up one within 10 minutes at 8 stops. That south wind kicked up early and then blew hard enough to call it quits at 9am. Wet, rough ride home. Im going tomorrow (saturday). Ill post my results. post yours...

We were going to head out of Bodega midweek but the weather report is not good. Looks like we might get a little more season so hoping to make it out soon for a salmon/crab combo.

went out today. Trolled the edge of the canyon from PG point 3/4 of the way to moss landing. Then took 3 big laps around the fleet. ZIP, ZILCH, NADA. Saw people land fish here and there. Not much consistancy. The fish were scatteded in the mud at 300'. Some people got a few, some came close to limits and plenty who came home with nothing. Weather was nice however. Goin again tomorrow to get the skunk off.

Good luck. A friend said there were bait boats working off Mulligans Wednesday but no bites. The 1 fish we caught was at the bottom in 300'. In 2 days I lost 2 baits and had one with nice teeth marks but at that depth I never felt a thing. Maybe braided line would help but these fish are spooky, and scarce.

    tight lines-

Went again today (sunday). I put the gear in the water and trolled north from monterey in 300' twards mosslanding. I picked up a 15 lb fish at 18 stops off the old solders club. I continued to troll into moss and met the fleet there. I skirted around the edge of the fleet and head back the way I came. This time I went on the 260 line avoiding the numerous crab pot floats I passed by earlier. Again by the solders club I picked up a fish just over 20" long.

Heard of one radio limit and knew of many who didnt get anything. I think most people got 2-3 per boat.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you did better than most. (purple and black hootchie?)

Interesting that the same locations put up fish year after year.

    enjoy.

Went out on a cattle boat out of Monterey yesterday as well. 15 anglers with 9 fish boated. Few lost at the boat and lots of munched baits. Unfortunate thing here was that we were mooching between 280 and 300 feet. Wish I had one of those line counters......I ended up with two of the 9 fish boated. Both averaged bewtween 8-10 lbs. I think the largest was around 17. Flat calm seas.

    Steiny.

Sunday.. The fish were right outside of the breakwater of the monterey harbor. Lots of limits, lots of boats. The bait is right outside as well. The commercial seiner boats are piled up as well. The bite cooled off monday. Should be a big turnout of people fishing this weekend.

Went out yesterday 5/8. The fish from previous reports were supposed to be basically right outside of monterey harbor. I trolled all day and nothing. Very few boats picked up fish. The ones who did couldnt find any consistancy to keep their momentum going. I cam home with zero. Better reports come from soquel hole.
