The wife and I enjoyed our first upland season hunting over our HWV (who turns a year old today). We hunted put and take and hunt clubs. There are very few wild birds in our area.
My wife trained Labs and GSP's in the 70's for field and trials, but hadn't hunted since then. Over the past few years she has picked up a couple new guns and been shooting clay birds with me. She hits about 85% now, so was confident when we started hunting.
It has been great having her in the field with me. We have taken friends and/or family along to "show off" our dog.
Now she is ready for next fall for more hunting. We may try for Jr. Hunter with the AKC to keep our dog on birds thru the summer. We also are taking a UKC TAN test in May.
Think me not unkind and rude,
That I walk alone through grove and glen.
I go to seek the God of the wood,
And fetch His word to men.
That's pretty neat but I don't know most of the acronyms.
Sorry Jean, I guess I wasn't thinking about that when using so many.
HWV = Hungarian Wirehaired Vizsla, The breed of bird dog we have.
GSP = German Shorthaired Pointer
AKC = American Kennel Club
UKC = United Kennel Club
TAN = UKC's Test of Natural Ability
We ended up shooting 39 birds over our "Dani" in her first season afield. She should be really serious come fall.
