Ok my soon to be 18 year old son wants to join the CMP to get a Garand.
I'm gonna bust out in tears
So who do I sleep with or what do I do to make this happen? You garand guys tell me.

Dang, Two Rugers. Makes me wish I had a daughter to offer him. I'd like to have a Garand too, but the club part of CMP sales has always tripped me up.

I seem to recall I had to go to one of these clubs, join and put 50rds down range during a CMP sanctioned match. They didn't care if I hit the target or not, just 50 rds down range.

The California Rifle and Pistol Assoc counts. It's easy to join. You probably don't even have to live here... check them out on the web.
So does Garand Collectors.
The hardest qual that your 18 year old will have to meet is the marksmanship qualification. If he has taken a Hunting Safety course that involved live fire and you get a note from the instructor that it did he's in. Any type of competitive shooting event he's been in will also meet that requirement. Provided he is a US citizen, is over 18, can legally own a rifle and you get the proper form noterized, as required, to prove he is who he says he is you'll be good for 3 years of expensive bliss and sleepless nights waiting for the arrival of the rifles you buy. Still get the shakes when the Honkers turn into the wind and drop their feet or when a little forked horn buck walks up my trail. I take kids hunting every opportunity I get. "What?? Haven't heard an Elk bugle in the woods??" Man, you haven't lived yet!!
