Any beaglers out there?
I'm in the OC area. I have a 1.5 year old gundog. She is a rabbit killer and can solo them no problem. I'm looking for a pack to run with this fall. If you are intersted let me know!
Running in the snow after that big storm last year. She was wet cold and happy!
My dogs first rabbit. When she was 8 mo she was already flushing them.
If you have a spot that you know has a ton of rabbits but don't have any gundogs I'll bring mine if you show me the spot! I garuntee you'll see alot more rabbits plus we stand in the clearing and chit chat while the dog does all the work in the briars. When she pushes the rabbit into the clearing you blast it. I spent way too many days kicking the bushes and jumping on brush piles to flush the rabbit myself! If you have a pack then we can negotiate going to my honeyhole.

I'm still looking for someone who runs beagles in my area. Everyone and their brother has a bird dog but no one runs beagles.

my cousin has a beagle and we are heading out to the desert this saturday to try to get some rabbits. we are both kind of new to the desert. my cousin hunts camp pendleton with his beagle, your welcome to join us
where did you get your beagle? I'm looking to get one after xmas so it will be ready for the opener
Sorry I did not see this in time.
Heading out 10-18th. Hunting cajon pass sat the 10th. Then to lucern valley, a spot by barstow, maybe mojave national preserve. We can meet up any time along the way.
I got my beagle at Mojave Desert Beagles. Unfortunantly I believe the kennel went out of buisness. I wanted to get another pup but the website is gone. I can put you in touch with some really good folks in oregon. They would probably ship you a good beagle or you could drive up and get it. They are usualy affordable around 300-500. I've hunted over their dogs and they are champions. You could probably hunt over their pack before you buy. Hunting over a good pack of beagles is the most fun I have ever had in my life!
Mary's Peak Hound Club/ Baying Briars you can google those.
If you are only going to get one dog I would just buy a pointer.
Beagles are far more fun with 3 or more dogs. Makes for alot more action. Hunting one Beagle is really slow with alot of checks.

I have a Beagle mix and a Jagdterrier puppy that I am training. Would be good to get out there with your more experienced dog

thanks for the info i will try to get in touch with them. i have always liked beagles I had two as a kid. I want a dog and was thinking about a beagle because me cousin has one and he's my hunting partner so I hope I could make it (pack hunt) with two or at least try. we tried around jaw bone but the jacks were bigger and faster than the dog. I want to scout some more spots with cotton tail. I might go fishing the 10/11 i will know by monday depending on the weather report. if I dont go fishing i will meet up with you.
Tons of rabbits in any of the Chapparel areas on the W. side of the mountains. It is too dry in the desert unless the dog is experienced, espcialy because jacks take such huge steps, the dog is always in a check. Try going out the day after a big storm. The rabbits come out of their holes to dry out and the moisture on the ground holds down the scent. Also don't even bother when its over about 65 degrees. 25-55 degrees is good scent condition. When its really dry its better to use the dog as a jump dog as it will likely just go a short distance and result in a check. If you had a whole pack working as a team they stand a chance of locating the next set of prints and keep moving forward, working as a team to solve the problems when Thumper gets tricky, like crossing streams or doubling back.
A hound may or may not pack up in the field. They are more likely to pack up if they live together.
Beagles are alot of fun you just have to accept how they hunt. They are really hard headed and when they are on a rabbit track it can be impossible to call them back. You may spend many hours just standing there hoping the rabbit is pushed across the opening. My dog will circle em good and push them into the opening if the ground is damp and its cool. If its too dry and hot she is a jump dog. She'll do birds too and actualy fetches them better then my friends pointer.
