I have a hobo knife, gut hook, skinning, butcher kit. But am looking for a survival style knife, What's the best ot there?
For the money I've been really happy with the Cold Steel SRK.

Any Randall. Model 1, 14, 23 or 8 Those are the ones I have. Skinned two elk using the #8.
I would have to vote for the Cold Steel Bushman. Well made knife, and costs way less than some of the fancy survival knives !! It will take more abuse than most too !!
Gerber LMF II.
You have to decide what you feel this knife should be able to do. For me in the Hawaiian tropics my "survival knife" should make shelter, butcher game and clear my path.
If I were to have 1 knife?
12" Ontario machete
I've butchered animals start to finish with it and it worked good enough. Most people prefer a 4-8" plain edge fixed blade with full tang. The truth is, you can't prepare for a survival situation so the best survival knife is the one that doesn't leave your side.I use my 12" Ontario along with a 3" fixed blade or folder while I'm hunting. The combo covers alll bases.

This is my new dream knife.

I like the blade design (similar to the EKA/Mora swede design. But handle design is very poor from a safety aspect. There is no guard or sculpture in the handle which would prevent your hand from sliding up on the blade.

That one is a little bulky.

I love my cutco hunting blade, but for a brush clearing type blade you can't beat the Woodsman's Pal.

These are mine.
The jack knife goes with me 24/7 and in my checked airline luggage all around the world.
The skinning/gutting knife is always with me in addition on any hunt.
I believe in having two of everything. Learned that from cave and shipwreck scuba diving.
You don't need anything bigger unless you want to use it like a dagger.
For fighting I prefer a machete, not a knife. So the knife does not need to be bigger.
The machete is also good for clearing trails and poison oak in California. As is the hatchett.
The extra jack knife I gave to my brother. Our father taught us never go anywhere without a knife.
Our dad was a WW2 vet.

A pain machete has nothing on the woodsman's pal.
