Howa Ranchland compact??

HI,
I was wondering if anyone, has had any experience or can provide some information about the Howa rifles. Particuarly, the Ranchland Compact.
I was considering possibly getting on in .204 or .223, but people I have talked to know very little about Howa, and I was wondering what kind of reputation their rifles have, and if they are well built and can handle some use.
Any info would be appreciated.

Howa's are great rifles. Period.

They are marketed as Weatherby Vandgaurds and also sold under the Howa name (the actual manufacturer). Same as the old S&W M-1500.

Theya re built very well, and tend to be one of the more accurate out of the box rifles out there. I haven't used the compact version before, but I've had/have several of the standard and HB versions. They all shot sub MOA with handloads. Another thing I like about them, is they have a mauser style recoil lug. i.e. Flat bottomed action with the lug as part of the front of the action. They are a breeze and a joy to glass bed. The thin barreled versions do need to have time between shots, as the barrels heat up quickly, but cold bore shots are consistent. What more could you ask for, eh?

I'm sure others will comment as well, but bottom line: I'd have no concerns or reservations if I was considering the purchase of another.

I really liked this rifle when I saw it in a hunting mag. advertisment. If I was looking for a small cal. or 243, 7mm-08, 308 and so on, with a nice shorty barrel (ranchland would be it), but thats just it...I want 25-06 or 257 Rob. with a 24 or 26 inch barrel. If my memory serves me correctly the ranch land was smaller cal and up to the ones I listed and 18 or 20 inch barrels, which will cut down on veloicty (esp. in the medium cal)...wont it? Nice rifles though, seriously thought about one myself.

Howa's in my limited experience with one are very accurate and durable. You'll be glad you bought one.

Howa bolt action has been the original design since it came out in the 1970's????? as the Smith & Wesson 1500 bolt action rifle and now they are the Weatherby Vanguard and also as the Howa bolt action rifle imported by Legacy International???? The original design has been around a long time and probably Howa Machinery Corporation has had a long time to finesse the tooling tolerances, the mass production process and with the advent of Computer Numerical Control it is probably very quick and cheap to produce but the tolerances can be tightly controlled from batch to batch with CNC. So...........we have a very high quality, very accurate, very good trigger rifle for around $400 to $480 when it is on sale at Turner's Outdoorsman...........which is very often on sale. It is a really great bargain.....I have had a Winchester Model 70 XTR(the high end model in the late 1970's), a Remington 700 BDL, a military Springfield Model 03 in original very good quality condition, a Savage bolt action, all of them in 30-'06 and only the Remington and the Springfield have decent triggers.....the Winchester and the Savage have raspy, heavy, terrible triggers. Howa will be my next bolt action..............if I were ever to get another one.
