After some long hard thinking.....I decided to go PINK! There I said it. A few months back I was not fond of the color. I am just not the girly girl type. Yet, I enjoy being know as a female duckhunter.

Holly, also known as Norcal Cazadora, mentioned a women's clothing designer challenged her to wear pink camo when out hunting.

At first I just laughed at the idea, pink camo in the duckblind...the ducks would be laughing at us. Then the other week I was in Wally World scoping out the sporting goods department and came across a camo hat made of pink and camo. Since I was going to be going to the CWA Women and Children Shoot first event. I thought it to be cool to wear it there.

That's when I changed my way of thinking. I love that hat! My husband just laughed at me when I told him I want pink and camo hunting clothes. Now I don't know if he'd let me hunt with him in the same blind wearing pink. So I may just have to try it out when hunting alone. Will the ducks flare while wearing pink?

I hope not...I just love that little ole pink hat. Oh, and CWA gave all the women beautiful pink duck calls. I even bought a pink Zink duck call to. Now I just have to find the outfit to match.

BTW....I could never carry a pink gun.

What clothing pattern will you be wearing this year?

I'm still waiting for my pink camo hunting clothes, but I'm trying to decide on a new duck jacket this year and would love some advice and input.

For the past two years, I've worn a Gamehide jacket, men's medium. Problem is, I really need a men's small and they don't have 'em ever where I shop. I really started noticing last year how all that bulk was messing up my gunmount.

Also, after spending a lot of time dipping my waistband in the water, I've decided I want an under-the-waders jacket, slim and warm.

Anyone have preferences there? I was really happy with Gamehide construction, camo and "hush hide." But man, I sure would like something that fits.

And Dana, I'm totally with you in pink out there. As soon as I get some.

And you looked GREAT in that pink hat :-)

Holly...What outfitter has the pink clothes? I have looked everywhere for them. As to the jacket. I still haven't seen a great waterfowl jacket for women. I have always worn Browning Waterfowl jackets. I bought my last one 7 years ago and this year I am finally going to replace it.

I bought a new Cabelas Waterfowl jacket last year that I wore at the end of the season and I just HATED IT! I never struggled with a jacket as much as that one.

Have ya'll tried heading over to Cabelas or Sportsman's Warehouse to try stuff on? Even if you don't want to buy there, it's a great opportunity to try different materials and designs, and see what feels right... much easier than looking at pix on a website or catalog.

I know I stopped in on my way to and from Coon Camp Springs this past weekend and was able to find some new, hot-weather hunting stuff to replace the worn out gear I've been wearing for years. Just seeing this stuff in the catalog would never have sold me on it, because I had to hold it in my hands to get an idea of how light it was. Good stuff.

And no... I'm NOT wearing pink camo this year or any year.

My girls love their Pink Camo. Of course at ages 8 and 10 it is pretty cool.

I do wonder what I am going to do if they get more serious about their bowhunting where they NEED camo. Most of the rest of the hunting trips, simply jeans and hiking boots fit the bill. but the Way the oldest one is getting deadly accurate with her bow, she may be askin' Dad to take her out in a couple of years in July for a buck....

Well, Keli Van Cleave swears by her pink camo, but it's worth noting that it's a standard green camo with bits of pink, not all shades of pink like your (adorable!) girl is wearing.

And Phillip, funny you should mention that, but I've been hankering for a pilgrimage to the new Cabela's in Reno. Haven't been yet (duh - it opened during duck season!).

Phillip...with your hair and skin color. I bet you'd look very manly in pink camo...lol

You never know until you try.

Somehow I don't think pink and my skin tone will work very well at all... but I'd just as soon pass on finding out.

But if there's a pilgrimage to Cabelas in the future, it might be fun to make a party of it.

I'm not a fan of pink, but I want to see pictures of everyone in their pink camo when you all get some. That would be a sight.

Phillip, if you have ever been to a PRCA rodeo, you would know this....

Are you TOUGH Enough to wear PINK?

Victory archery has even started a cancer awareness program called the Pink Arrow program.

I still get grief from the guys I work with over a salmon colored shirt that is real comfortable, but ever since I gave the one guy an atomic wedgie, they stay farther away and taunt me..

But pink has become a real "Statement" color thanks to the work of folks at the Susan B. Komen Foundation. I'd still wear a pink button down collar shirt under a blue blazer and I think I could pull it off... But not after Labor day ladies..

I'm tough, but maybe not that tough. My bucking bronc days have been pretty limited, and that's by design! Some ill-tempered trail horses and one crazy donkey taught me all I need to know about rodeo riding over my lifetime.

I talked to the folks at Victory about the Pink Arrow program a while back. Keep meaning to follow up on that one.
    Great program!

And you're big enough to go bear hunting with a willow switch, John, so if you want to wear pink, you go right ahead.

Hey, it takes a REAL man to wear pink. I've worn a pink shirt with a tie and blazer as well as a pair of overalls. That last combo was a total chick magnet in the '80s.

But for you goils, I say GO FOR IT!

A pink shirt with a pair of overalls? Or were the overalls pink?

Either way, I'd love to see a picture of that outfit.

    Dana:

If you are going to wear pink camo, you shouldn't have to pay for it. If there's a clothing manufacturer out there, they will sponsor you in a heartbeat. You are the Queen Bee of Duck Hunting! And, you won't have to worry about your guy friends piimping you for freebies.

I have a great idea for a new Max 4 camo with pink for women. As I was hunting doves on the river. There right in front of me was a beautiful plant with clusters of tiny pink flowers. It grew amongst all the plants like in the max pattern.

Now that would be a perfect cloth pattern for women who duck hunt. Just a little pink to make a difference.

I have searched websites for pink camo shirts and all I can come up with is Military Pink Camo. It wouldn't work for duck hunting. It has to much white in it. Now a camo with pink, browns, blacks or tan would be nice.

I did wear my pink and camo hat dove hunting. I didn't see any difference. They still flew with in range to shoot.

I am still on my quest for pink camo. So far what I have done was buy camo that might have some white in it. Then I tye dye in pink. It adds just enough pink where the white was to give it a new look. Of course, it's still a man's shirt and pants.

I am still waiting to get out there and duck hunt in my almost pink camo. We have had no water for most of the beginning of the duck season, and I have been so busy hunting deer and pheasants.

    Dana:

Don't hesitate to call the camo manufacturers. Tell them you have an idea for a new hunting clothing line. Couldn't hurt. You might make a zillion dollars overnight, or at least get fully outfitted for your trouble. They will take your calls.

    Stumbled across this thread....

    on the topic of PINK

I recently (over the last year), have been getting my wife more into shooting and firearms, and for me, Pink was the avenue to start the process. She wasn't overly fond of "going to the range" etc... but once I got her a few toys that she likes, she's now asking to go just as often as my boys or I am.

Her stash looks like this so far -

Just grabbed this for her on our 16th Anniversary... She was tired of the jewelry, shoes and trips every year (thats my story anyway), but at least it came with some flowers..

    Sig Mosquito .22

Got this a while back for her. She still isn't keen on larger caliber rifles, so for plinking, she likes taking this.

    Ruger 10/22

For holding down the fort... Can't find a set of Pink Hogue or Pachmayr grips for it, but that might be too much for the .357... and to think of it - coming down the hallway investigating a bump-in-the-night with a pink gun... there's a joke in there somewhere...

    Ruger SP-101

and made a special trip to Turners this weekend to grab these for her...

So for her, PINK is definitely working on the firearms side... Have to work on the hunting angle still, but that's certainly her decision to make....

    she still loves me...

    Paul

There is always the home grown angle on this. There are dyes and such that you might use to augment existing camo to try out ideas. I don't think much of pink for myself, but if it makes you smile then say yes to a bit of whimsey.

You could simply toss a new red shirt in with your light colored camo and, VOILA!, you have pink. I know this because I am a man....

Oh, and for the under the waders jacket I would recommend a Drake 1/4 zip pullover...Very warm (never been cold in mine, actually) and form fitting.
