I bought a Knight Muzzle Loader .50 cal for a trip to NY this fall. I will be ML hunting for deer and will be hunting an area that has a couple black bears so I am gonna get a tag for them also. You might have noticed my other post, I just bought the ML today.

So does anyone have a recommendation on a bullet for blackies? I have some sabotted 260 grain bullets that I am going to sight in with this weekend. Am wondering if thats enough weight?

I don't know how this gun will shoot yet, it has a published max of 120 grains of powder, but I have yet to play with it to see what will work best. OH, and I haven't been there yet, but imagine it will be some thick woods hunting, not looking at getting a long range shot (100 yds would probably be really long, thinking more like 50yds and under).

    Thanks for any input.

I would recommend your trying some PRBullet.com Ultimate 1 conicals. The 400 grainers should do the job nicely and I would think about 100 grains of Pyrodex (RS or Select) or about 85 grains of Triple 7 would push them plenty hard.

Just a note, I posted once in the Bear Forum on this, so I basically have the same question twice, Jesse moved it over here. No big deal, I was just hoping some bear hunters might speak up...
