Atlanta, Georgia - The Georgia State Capitol is going to get a little wild on Thursday, Jan. 17, during the first week of Georgiaís 2008 legislative session. Hunters, anglers and sportsmenís groups from around the state will be participating in the 2008 Sportsmenís Day at the Capitol.
This is the 6th annual sportsmenís event at the Georgia Capitol and it looks like it will be the biggest yet. The Department of Natural Resources will also participate with a live animal exhibit featuring birds of prey and reptiles, along with a 3D shooting simulator.
Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Senate President Eric Johnson are scheduled to speak at 9:30 a.m., during Sportsmenís Day at the Capitol activities.
ďSportsmen have a multi-billion dollar economic impact on Georgiaís economy each year,Ē said Dan Forester, Director of the Department of Natural Resources. ďAnd they are among Georgiaís leading conservationists, contributing millions annually towards land and habitat preservation throughout Georgia. Sportsmenís Day provides a perfect opportunity for us to share that great story with our elected officials.Ē
According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's 2006 Hunting, Fishing and Wildlife-Associated Recreation Survey, hunters and anglers contribute more than $2 billion annually to the Georgia's economy.
