Well I know Rimrock can make a nice knife! Those are his adorning this forum. Always wanted to make a nice knife but never got around to trying . what steel do you use , tempering , grinding ETC.
###I make knives for myself from time to time.What i use is old cross cut saws that i pick up here and there,i try to work the metal slow so it dont heat up and loose its temper.The hardest thing about making knives to me is looks,it is hard to make an old rusty cross cut saw into a knife and look good.im still working on that art.
Brad, if you've never made a knife before you may wish to try out a kit knife. ###That'll give you a good introduction to knife making without having to look at a bare piece of steel trying to figure out what knife is inside it. ###Most kit knifes are already tempered and you'll do the handle fitting and assembly and the final finishing to the blade. ###A great resource is http://www.texasknife.com
I picked up a couple handmade knives in Costa Mesa Saturday. ###They're from a company called Anza (or something similar). ###They start with a metal file, cut it, temper it, shape it, etc. ###Knowing very little about knives, I was impressed. ###Plus, they look great and were fairly inexpensive. ###

I have made and sold a few over the years. I sold under the TM of "WEB II knives". There are knives to look at, knives for investment, and knives to use. I make the latter out of ats-34 ss and it works for me. If you were closer, you could come over and I would show you how I do it and let you make your own on my stuff.Took 60 hours for my first knife but with$25k invested, the time is about 10 hours per knife. That is spread out over a month as i have 100+ all going at the same time in different stages. Email with questions and I'll try to answer them. Good luck
Let me add my welcome. There are a lot of guys & gals on this forum that are knowledgeable about a lot of things and are always willing to help. Will be looking for some pictures and input.
Don't have many pictures. Brother started a website about 3 years ago and I listed that. I don't advertise but manage to keep busy. This was my first time to visit this board and I will try to keep up. For anyone looking for a discount , I will take measurements and make knives w/ sheath for members for $110. Dizzy Dean said "It ain't braggin if you can do it" and we try. Only knife maker to make 'em after death but thats a long story. Thanks again ###Dave

I started back about 1980. The first ones I did I thought were great, until I saw them again a few years later. The only thing I could say is they would cut. ###I learned on my own. ###I got books and magizens and read all I could. A good book to start with would be "Custom Knife Making" . It gives some good pointers and places to start. ###Are you close to Mike Koval or buy supplies from him? He sighed my sheet to get into the Knifemakers Gild. I never ###did follow thru with it however.

I also suggest starting with ###O-1 tool steel. It will make a good working knife and most people can get to a tourch or cermanic klim where they can heat treet the knife after shaping. ###As Ron Willison from WVA said while holding up a piece of flat stock. We all live and learn. At least we hope we do. I started making them out of files and saw blades. Still have my serial #1. I was real proud of it when I made it but won't show it to anyone now.
I use ATS-34 naw and am quite happy with it.
