Hey bou-hunter,
To respond to your post in the campfire section "Who's going caribou hunting or is interested in it?" After seeing a segment on A-Way outdoors on the outdoor channel I've been dreaming of taking a double shovel since last year. Since then I've been saving up my $$ and hopefully by next season I'll have enough set aside to book a hunt. Being from VT I've been looking at trips in Quebec and Scotia, but am very new at hunting this type of game...I've ready many post on here and has fueled my interest very much!
If you cant hunt, fish.....if you cant fish, hunt
Check out some of the posts here and let me know if you have any questions!
Quebec is a good option, especially if you're in the NE.
A trip to the Arctic is awesome and you wouldn't regret it!!!
I guess my issue is running the risk of selecting who and how...Who would I be using for a guide service and How much am I willing to pay. I have read great reviews from hunters who have selected Mirage outfitters out of Quebec but they come with a heavy price tag, and I've also read where if I was in a "party" I'd be able to get a better rate, but I seem to be in this alone with my hunting partners, however I'd be willing to team up with hunters who needed an extra memeber. The downside to that is these hunts are usually booked in advance and I'm thinking I've missed the boat on this season which is fine because this is something I'm looking to do for following season. The more I think about it I might also have just scratched the surface of this and will need to invest more time in planning this trip. I will keep you in mind as time draws near, and I always keep a close eye on the forum.

One thing to consider....if you are on your own (no partners to worry about) and could go on short notice, many of the outfitters will have last minute cancellations and will try to fill those spots at a "discounted" price!
One of the hunters in camp was able to come on the hunt for about half price due to someone else cancelling. He had spoken to the outfitter in advance and worked out a deal to come on short notice and the deposit from the other hunter was applied to him. Don't be afraid to ask them about spots that might be available for this season, if you have the opportunity. It could save you a bunch of money!
Good luck!
