After reading the story, it seems like a person would need to have more facts. If he were defending himself and not his bait, then it would cast a different light on it. Since it is a protected species, the great American principle of "Assumed Guilty until proven inocent" will probably hold true. He will probably be tried, convicted and hung in the media before any of the real facts are out.
A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. The Bible says ( not sure where) that "your days are truly numbered. You only have so many days alloted to your life. Any day spent fishing does not count against the total."

The article clearly states that there were witnesses to the attack and they are the ones that called the police. I'm an avid fisherman and yes I sometimes get very angry with seals stealing my bait and even fish that I've caught. However, never have I seriously considered injuring these animals. After all, their just trying to make a living. The lunatic fringe environmentalist are going to far when boat owners and dock tenants can't take nonleathal action to remove them. We need a middle ground where they can be dealt with in a firm manner that will not cause serious injury.
Hunting and fishing are not matters of life or death. They are much more important than that.

New guys don't really check the dates on posts sometimes. They just go through the posts not realizing the dates. Some of the people aren't even on the forum anymore
