I am thinking about getting a 22-250 barrel for my contender pistol. Will it work or would a 223 be better for them pesky varmints? Yotes mostly. Thanks for the help...

22-250 will give you a little more reach but both are great yote cals.

Between the two, since it will be a contender pistol, shooting at 150 or less if possible (I don't see that good), which would be the better choice? Sorry for all the questions but thanks..

The 22-250 will have more recoil....if that's of any concern to you. Also you will probably be able to find the .223 ammo at a cheaper price.
Both will get the job done, but the 22-250 can be loaded with wider range of bullet weights.

Since it's for a pistol, I'd opt for the .223. A 22-250 would be better in a rifle barrel. The 22-250 and the .223 use the same bullets.
.22-250 can't kill coyotes. Ok, maybe a couple here and there.

I would not recommend either for a pistol length barrel. They will be loosing a lot of their speed from such a short barrel. Since you are limiting yourself to about 150 yards or so, you may want to go to a larger caliber or a round designed for the T/C setup and barrel length.
You might also consider the .204ruger

What barrels do you currently have and what else will you use this new varmint barrel for? Are you a hand loader or will you be buying factory ammo?
Go for .308
Was out with my buddy who had a contender with .308 with the 15" pistol barrel. We were out scouting turkey and saw a yote. I happened to have my range finder and he was at a hair over 200 yds. He had just got the new barrel and had rough sighted in the scope at 50 yds. He sat down with some shooting sticks and let one fly. He said that he had aimed high because of the distance. He missed it went right over the yotes back. We laughed and watched the yote run off. As we crested the ridge top about 10 minutes later here was the yote again. This time he put the cross hairs right about at the spine at 197 yds. He shot over his back again!! Never saw the yote again. Nice reddish coat too. The following weekend we went to the range and found out that he was about 6 inches high at 100 yds.

JKITTERMAN:m I currently have 4 different barrels. They are .17HMR, .35 Rem, 7-30 Waters and .44 Mag. All barrels are 14 inch. I will possibly use the barrel for deer along the coast and general plinking at misc other varmints. I have a .308 in an Encore rifle so that caliber is out. I had thought about a .204 but heard that it is only really good for predators. What a decision....but I am leaning towards the .223.

It sounds like you have a nice spread of barrels. If you can get a look at a Sierra reloading manual, it has a good selection of single shot pistol data in it. You should be able to get an idea of how much velocity you will give up. I looked it over a bit on the weekend to see if there was any other caliber to recommend.
Check out the .221 fireball, it is specifically engineered for a 10 to 14 inch barrel and will certainly take out a coyote at 150 yards. It is also amazingly accurate. The velocity difference between the .223 and .221 won't be as significant as you think (with the short barrel) and the muzzle blast will be greatly reduced.
But, if you're dead set on the .223 or 22-250, I'd choose the .223 for pretty much the same reason, with the 22-250 you will have substantial muzzle blast for very little gain in velocity.
