Thumbs up

Regifting? Do you do it? You get something for Christmas and it just doesn't fit your style so you wrap it back up and give it to someone who will fit better. There was a Seinfeld epsiode about regifting, in fact they get credit for coining the term.

What do you fashion mavens say. Tacky? Acceptable?

I once got this sweater with a big puffy collar from a relatvie that was gold and black. Looked like something an East St. Louis pimp would wear. I never regifted it but I never wore it either.

I've been re-gifted . . . completely tacky. Try to return it or give it to Salvation Army!

I don't but would if the gift were right for someone else.

My wife does. She has take gifts away from me and given them to others. Always said she was a giving person...she'll give you the shirt off my back.

I got a sweet CuisineArt coffeemaker for a wedding present that is just looking for the right person to give it a home!

We asked for a stainless and black 14 cup CuisineArt coffee maker. My new "great" step-grandmother in law decided she didn't like the stainless and black and 14 cup was too big so she got us the 12 cup, stainless and white model. Everything else in our kitchen in stainless and black. She won't tell us where she bought it and won't give us a gift receipt. We can find any place around here selling the exact model so we haven't been able to return it...

I got free JHO decals from Jesse, and am sending to my fishing/hunting buddies in their Christmas cards. Does that Count?

I received some towels for my wedding. They didnt match what we registered for, so I went to take them back to the store hoping to get some in-store credit. Well the store I took them to said "we dont sell that brand, but I think Foleys does". I was like, hmmm we didnt even ask for anything from Foleys but oh well. So I walked to Foley's hoping to return them and get in-store credit, and the lady behind the counter says "well yeah we used to carry that brand .... about 7 years ago"

I received another wedding gift from my friend Brad. It was some random spatula and spoon set. We didnt ask for it but I was like oh well. Anyways, when I opened the box to pull out the spatulas and spoons, there was a nice note that said "Hi brad, I hope you enjoy your spatula set, Love Grandma"...

Nah, never have done that. Always thought that would be really, really tacky....Plus, if it's something I don't like, I'd bet it'd be something most of my friends wouldn't like either.

Nice idea!

Both "gifting" and "re-gifting" are handled by my wife and she is excellent at it. She'll buy things 18 months ahead of time when they are on sale. She'll hold on to things we don't like/can't use and can't return and use them for last minute gifts, hostess gifts, etc. Just last week she re-gifted a Starbucks gift card to a co-worker who was transferring to a different department. For her best friend she took a gift card that we had from some returns at Pier One (or Cost Plus - can't ever tell those two dumps apart), added some money to it, and voila! A perfect gift.

I have re-gifted.
If the gift is from someone at work, the gift is regifted to a friend.

Sometimes it just doesn't fit anyone and ends up in the trash.

Yes.

I regift whiskey and tequila. Everybody thinks I like to drink that stuff, and I probably get six bottles during the year. So, I pass it on, ('cept for the good stuff.) Keeps me outta trouble.

Foulshot can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think we were regifted from a friend of ours who was regifted from her own sister. The original gift was from Foulshots wife.

For our wedding, a friend from my childhood got us a bread machine. Cool...until we opened it. It was a used bread machine. Mind you, not opened and "oops, I don't like that." I mean had dried dough in it. I could have gotten bent out of shape and offended, but instead my wife and I laughed at what a flake the guy was.

A friend of mine used to do a yearly post Christmas party explicitly for regifting. Everyone wrapped up the worst gift anyone got them that year, and then do a white elephant exchange. Loads of fun.
