I need some opinions on what is a good brand that makes 30-06. I don't want something that is over $500.

I dont think you could go wrong with a Winchester either. Should be a little cheaper than the Browning. I have a Browning 7 mag and a Winchester 243 and like them both. ### ### ### ### ### ### Fubar

Nothing wrong with the Savage 110. ###Not fancy, but pretty danged good rifle for the money. ###Well below your $500 limit. ###

Of course, if you want to stay closer to the upper end of your limit, Browning is an awesome gunmaker.

I agree with Speckmisser. My buddy had a Savage 110 and it was real accurate. I've seen the dtachable model have problem feeding well in .308. but his standard box magazine rifle worked great.

Winchester with controlled round feed! - Or if you would spend money on customizing it after you buy it. You might want to try a military Springfield O3-A3. Have it sporterized. They are a little heavy but shoot like a dream. I did mine for 700$ (new barrel, muzzel brake, electroless nikle plated, trigger, & glass bedded).

My Savage 110 synthetic stock is pretty darn accurate with any bullett type i've tried. Wal-Mart has the best price.

The Savage is an Ok rifle, but by the time you replace the trigger, it isn't much cheaper than the Browning, and the Savage isn't near as ###pretty.
I'd buy the Browning, and just for the heck of it, take a gander at the 300WSM in the Browning. ###If you hand load, the new mag will do everything the 06 will do, and do it better with very little if any more recoil. ###If you don't reload, stay with the 06, ammo is much cheaper.

Just curious, Doghouse...why would you replace the trigger on the Savage? ###

For a pricing reality check, I like to use http://www.gunsamerica.com ### There are some outstanding deals to be had there.

I'm partial to my Winchester 1957 model 70 featherweight.

Winchester makes a decent rifle for the money. ###They went back to the old pre-64 styled action a few years ago...it's in that price range.

You might be ###able to find a Sporterized by Kimber mauser in 30-06 for about $500...that's probably what I'd get.

For $28 I had my trrigger worked on by my local gunsmith and it's a real pleasure to shoot.
