Okay friends, I need a little help. This coming weekend is my first ever quota hunt. I am gonna rip off a ton of questions, and if y'all can help I would really appreciate it.
What time do you show up on Friday morning in order to get checked in, and how does it work?
Do you guys have any tricks on getting to your spot, or ways to avoid unecessary hang ups at the gate?
Hunting ???'s-
My bug proof clothing didnt fair too well this morning. Skeeters are thick as all hell. How do you guys deal with em?
Are palm trees okay for climbing stands? I found one on a game trail that perfect.
We dont have actual "tags" for our deer. When we shoot game, do we just bring the permit with our license to the check in station?
MAN, I am so excited. Had a hog a 5 yards this morning. Hope she's still there next Friday. I cannot hunt Saturday (which sucks). Gotta coach t-ball, and my wife has a work function. Other than that...I have ants in my pants. As long as I can keep the skeeters at bay, and know how to correctly enter my quota hunt...them woods dont know whats about to hit them.

Not sure about the hang up's at the gate. I remember hunting 3-lakes and there was about 40 trucks in line opening morning. Guys were parking them there the night before.
The place up here I have been hunting there are cards to fill out and drop in a box. I usaully grab a couple days worth and fill them out ahead of time and just drop them off. No lines.
Also there are three entrances but only one check station, so ou either have to drive to it or call the biologist.
Each WMA seems to be different. Where are you hunting?
No tags just make sure you have your Quotat permit and license.
Palm tree should be OK other than those palm frons are noisey.
Good Luck.
Old fashioned repellant is probably your best bet for the insects. I don't really worry about it spooking game as much as I worry about it fading my camo/messing up my equipment. But I think its worth it, mosqitos make hunting miserable and ticks can be downright dangerous because of lyme disease. Last Saturday I didn't have much repellant on me when I went looking for my buck and I ended up pulling close to 20 ticks off me. If you use plenty of repellant with a high deet content, ticks won't be able to get off of you fast enough.
Many people like thermacells for insects. I have one, but I haven't used it while deer hunting yet.
I used a thermacell last week for the first time. Didn't even have a skeeter buzz by my ear.
Of course I didn't see any deer either.......
I have a Thermacell. Guess Ill give it a whirl.
I am hunting Seminole Ranch.

This year will be my first Quota hunts also, I have permits for Twin Rivers (Suwannee/Madison counties) and Andrews (Levy County). I have always hunted private land here or in Georgia. We have always hunted small game on some of the wma lands, but never a quota hunt. I am real excited because both places are awesome, and some really nice bucks have been taken. All I am worried about is getting the areas I want.
Thermacells work awesome, I have used one for years and have never noticed the deer scent them. They put off less smell than nonscented spray.
