In the above picture you can see that the shotgun shooter has fired the shotgun. See the green Rem HD hull just to the right of the shooter and some smoke by the shotgun.
The shot has not made it to the coyote yet.

In the above picture you can see that the shot did arrive to the coyote. Look at the recoil on the shooter.

The before picture.

The after picture.

It was real foggy when I took this bobcat picture. Just about 3 feet to the right of the bobcat you can see my Foxpro Prairie Blaster sitting on a big camo bag.

Old female coyote
I had a chance to do some depredation work Wednesday (12-02-09) morning. The swirling wind was a bit of a challenge. Seven stands - three dry, busted twice, two kills. I didn't take any pictures of the male coyote. I haven't seen mange that bad in a long time. Very little hair left on him. He looked like a hairless chihuahua.
This female came in from behind me, about 30 yards off to my right, and ran right through my set, disappearing over a small rise in front of me. Two minutes went by and she came back for a second look. Eighty yards, .22/250, handloaded Barnes 36 gr. "Varmint Grenade", facing shot, dead center in the chest. She was old. Her canines are yellowed and worn down. She weighted 22 pounds. The fur was in good shape but it was a little thin for this time of year.

Coyote Harvested on 12/29/09
I got my first coyote on 12/29/09 @ 7am after just 30 minutes of hunting. I was using a Primos Lil-Dog call and being new to coyote hunting wasn't sure if I was using the call right. I had decided to move to another location and as I was about to stand up I heard something moving to my right. I looked over and there he was walking parallel to me about 40 yards away. I shouldered my Remington 870 Express Supermag which was loaded with a 3" Dead Coyote T-shot Shell, took aim and dropped him in his tracks at 40 yards. I was use to shooting 2 3/4" shells and wasn't prepared for the re-coil and lost sight of the coyote after the shot. My adrenaline was so high that I was shaking horribly, it took me at least a minute to rack a fresh shell into the chamber and I was so shacky I had a hard time walking down the hill. I was nervous that I hadn't got a clean kill and that I was about to have an angry coyote come charging out of the brush, but as I rounded the bush he was next to when I shot, I seen him laying there with one blood trail from right behind his left shoulder and another coming from the joint of his front left leg. It was a perfect clean kill and not a single pellet hit the head. It was my first coyote, as well as my first kill that was bigger than a jackrabbit. I plan to have the head mounted as soon as I have the funds. (Sorry bout the pics, they were takin with my cam phone, gonna start taking a real camera with me) Also, I am a firm believer in eatin what one kills, so if anyone has any Coyote recipes I'd appreciate it.

Just because it's not eaten doesn't mean it's wasted .We tell ourselves to eat what we kill to assuage some kind of guilt or whatever.
That being said, I do believe in utilizing what we take. In this case , skin him out .
Good job, BTW !! Fun isn't it ?!

Eating what one kills,
You have a good point of view and I never thought of it that way. However, I am still going to cook and eat some of the meat from my first coyote. If I like it then that means I can utilize more of each coyote I kill, if I don't like it then I guess I'll be giving the crows and buzzards a free meal. Thanks for your insite into that matter

Thanks for the compliment OkieAaron,
It was a blast, my adrenaline was through the roof and I was in shock that I actually called it in and in only thirty minutes. I had heard how hard it was to hunt coyotes and that they were really spookish and hard to get in close and when I seen him I couldn't believe it. It was almost instinctive how I shouldered my shotgun, sighted him in and shot. After the fact when I looked back, I had to laugh cause I probably looked like a complete noobie with a shotgun cause I was use to 2 3/4" shells and it was the first time I had shot a 3 1/2" shell (I was acctually using a 3 1/2" Dead Coyote shell, not the 3"), I was difinitly not prepared for the recoil.

If you can eat a coyote after having skinned it , than you're a bigger man than I. Except for the ones with mange, I skin all of 'em regardless of what the market's doing.
Bobcats are another matter. Hides are 'put-up' and the backstraps go on the grill .
Anyway, learn all you can, Seth. Learn to call ,learn how to care for fur, learn all about your prey .... and then introduce someone else to the same thrill you experienced.

You can even use his fur to lure in more yotes. Get a decoy of a coyote, put him in a semi submissive pose, head down, low posture. Then take the fur from the dead coyote, put it on the decoy for added realism. Then use a challenge call sequence. The submissive pose will give any other coyote confidence in challenging your decoy.

Well I grilled some of the coyote up, and lets just say i'll be leaving the meat for the buzzards from now on. Now that you mention bobcats, I do want to hunt one, but have no idea were to go to hunt bob cat in Southern Cali, anyone having any info on that? (Also what do you mean by "Put-Up" when you are talking about the hides?)
