One of my good friends purchased a Cabela's Alaskan 3 Pack/Frame last year and has never used it. ######It has never been outdoors and he has decided to sell it. ######He offered it to me at $30 cheaper than new (cost new is $150 not including s/h) which seems to be a pretty good deal. ######

However, my question is in regards to the pack itself. ######I have looked through all the posts and seen only a few mentions of you avid backpackers who own an Alaskan Pack, and no one seems to have an AP 3. ######Is there a reason for this? ######Is it TOO big? ######Is there anyone out there that can tell me a little more about the pack other than the little blurb Cabela's puts out?

Specifically, I am interested in how happy you are with it, weight, comfort and if this comment, "Two expandable pockets on the other side with pass through design to hold long items like tent poles or a fishing rod." also includes carrying your rifle.

My trips only consist of an average of 2-4 days in the backcountry, exclusivly for hunting. ######My greatest thanks for your thoughts on this pack and frame.

I've got one, but I've only used it a couple of times, so I don't have enough experience to present any complaints yet. You need an additional set up from cabellas to attach a rifle, but you may be able to jerry-rig something with the side pouches. I haven't tried. The extra attachment is like $20 I think, so with your savings, you could afford it. Just my worthless $.02 worth.

Thanks Mac!

How 'bout everyone else? ######No one else has one of these packs? ######How about any of the other Alaskan Models? ######

I just used my Alaskan Outfitter for the first time and thought it was great. ######Roomy, very comfortable and well designed. ######$199 new. ######Packed 60lbs of gear including the rifle. ######It has a rifle holder that came in handy when I used it.
