D-8 and X-10
My dad got drawn for x-10 zone. I got drawn for D-16. I was thinking of changing my tag for a D-8 so we can hunt together (more or less same vicinity).
Anyone hunted or been to D-8 or X-10? This is our first time deer hunting. So any pointers or places to check out will help. I have already ordered the forest maps and in the process of ordering the USGS topo maps for those locations.
We will also be going for a scouting trip up there in July 4 weekend to get a hang of the lay of the land and familiarize ourselves with the areas.
So please if anyone has any pointers or suggestions or warnings feel free to chime in.
Thanks & Good luck to each and everyone !!!!!

The better areas for X10 are a ways from D8. It can be done but your Dad will probably want to focus on Monache Meadow. It is about an hour 4x4 road to get into Monache from D8. Most of D8 good hunting is in the Greenhorn Mountains or in and around and Kern River. Which is about a 2 1/2 hour drive from the Moncache area. But you could hunt on the border of the 2 zone and see what you find. The problem is that the boarder between the two is a asphalt road that get a ton of traffic from motorcycles to horse packers to sightseers. Best bet would be to focus on Golden Trout Wilderness at the norther parts of the zones where the Blackrock rd STOPS. Tough hunting in there but at least you are close to each other and then you could meet up at camp. Otherwise, good luck.
