When people recover after CPR they often spew their guts. I wonder if it's the same with deer?? MMmm good. But really some people just need to know when to quit.

Picturing it in my mind.... Cop pushes them out of the way, drags deer over behind the building while the "rescuers" just stand in shock. Kaboom! "Rescuers" start weeping. Cop drives away.

You gotta give those guys some credit. I dont think trying to save an animal is a stupid thing. Yes I love to hunt, but as a hunter you also have the responsibility to protect the wildlife for future generations. Some people might think I am sounding like a anti hunter, but the way I think of it is, if there is a chance they could of saved that deer they could have also been saving future offsprings. Now if there was no chance it could be saved then the police officer did the right thing in putting it out of it's misery. I just wish they would take some of these deer that they have to shoot and use them to feed people in need. From what I understand is if you hit a deer it is illegal to transport that deer or any part of it. We see deer everyday just waisting away on the side of the road. When I was a kid there was a deer that got cought in a barbed wire fence on our property, so we called fish and game and they came out and had to shoot it. We asked if they would put that deer to good use and he said no. I think he probably took it home for himself. Anyway I give them credit for actually trying.

They need all the deer they can get in Wallowa county. Give em props for trying, but most deer hit by vehicles croak anyway. And the majority if those die well away from the road.
When they grow up they look like this:

Just my $.02 but I think it's always a bad idea to screw around with a wounded animal. A year or two back some dopey woman got screwed up pretty bad by a forkie right on Sunset Bvld. near Pacific Palisades. After the deer was hit and down, she got out of her car to help it. In her infinitie wisdom she decided it needed a drink and tried to give it one with her water bottle. Deer hooked her and took a bite out of her, she fell and busted open her melon on the asphalt. All the while her kids were in the car watching the whole mess. Even a domesticated animal will behave erratically when injured and in shock, it's even worse with a wild animal. A dead buck or two won't mean the end of the species. Give 'em a lead pill or stay away, don't play veterinarian with them unless you're willing to pay a heavy price.
