3 years in the mud (infantry) U.S Army. 10th MTN DIV. As for the experience, to quote a fellow soldier, "I wouldn't buy it for a penny, and I wouldn't sell it for a million bucks". Military service has it's ups and downs but the lessons learned are priceless.

Navy 84-94. FC1, Firecontrol Tech, worked on and taught shipboard weapons systems. Mk86 GFCS Data and Display and Harpoon Missile System. Served on board USS Cushing DD-985 and taught MK 86 'C' school at FTC San Diego. Had a great time, learned lots, and met some of the best people. No regrets. My oldest son is an EO in the SeaBees; I am very proud of his service.

I can't say I have ever served with you brave men and women, but my father did for 20 yrs and a few months..for good measure he says. He spent that time in the USMC and flew CH-53's. He served from 77-97. The friendships and bonds that are created are unbelievable and I still witness them. He still hunts with 4 Marines he flew with, and started a ranch with them. He would never give it up, he tells me. He jokes now, but tells some people he got to spend 5 million dollars in about 20 seconds, when he went down with a CH-53 in Yuma AZ, 1986. Everyone lived, the Lord was watching over them.

Army, 16 Years... from 1992 til now. I am still serving, currently deployed for the fourth time... of those 16 years I spent 12 in the Reserves in Santa Barbara CA , I consulted the wife and went back to Active Duty, but this time in the Intelligence Field. So now... once more... I am deployed... and on Active Duty.
To those thinking of it... Do it. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. Learned a lot and grew up a lot too... much faster than I really wanted, but hey, it had to happen some time right?

Been in the Navy for about a year and a 8 months. Just finished up my school(s) BUD's and SQT in October. And broke into the Teams about as fast as possible.
When my family and friends ask how I like it I respond, "someone's got to be livin' the dream, it might as well be me" and it's all too true. I guess there aren't many people at 22 that can say that.
Sure I miss all the outdoor stuff I used to be able to do and won't have too much time in the next 2 years to do any of it, but I gotta say I have a pretty sweet job.
I'm looking to buy some property on the central coast where I grew up and have it for hunting for my future.
Hopefully we'll get a good deployment where we can kick in some doors and do some damage. Not a bad deal going to work with a bunch of badass dudes everyday.

Air Force , 1990 to present. I'm in the ICBM Missile Maint. specialty. Spent 9 years at Grand Forks AFB, ND then transfered to Vandenberg AFB, CA in 1999 and been there ever since. I can start terminal leave for retirement in December this year. Best decision I've ever made, to join the AF.

Been in the Army since 1984. Looking back, I honestly can't imagine doing anything else with my life. Nothing else could be this demanding and rewarding from the standpoint of personal growth. Deployments have been hard on the family, but my kids are growing up with an real understanding of what is important in life.

9 years and counting with the Navy. You can't beat the benifits, sights, and job security! Don't regret it. I have matured a great deal since High School. Go for it!

Went into the Marine Corps in '04. Was a grunt with 3rd Bn 1st Marines. Did a couple pumps, just got out in december. I would be a damn liar if I said I don't miss it, civilian life is kinda strange. I really liked the infantry. Just dont like some POG ass E-8 trying to tell me how to do my job. Sgts need to be able to do a Sgts. job. Don't think I'll ever have the oppurtunity to lead in combat again so it was certainly a once in a lifetime deal. A big thank you to all that are still serving and send a hammer pair down range for me.

Army 85/88 lance/redeye-stinger crossed trained. get everything in writing like it has been said before. it is getting very political and with a communist president who wouldnt care if the u.s. had the best military to keep its people safe from whomever would like to destroy her. id give it some serious thought! just my opinion

US Army Security Agency Jul 69 - May 72
Army Reserve Jun 72-Mar 74
US Army Infantry Apr 74 - Aug 91
Retired as an 11B4X on 1 Sep 91.
Two of my sons are currently serving. Oldest is an Army Reserve MP with a unit out of San Jose. The youngest is serving with the 2nd Inf Div in Korea in Communication, now a fourth of the way through his second tour there.
It was good then, but I don't know if I could say the same thing now.

LOL at the ripe age of 37(2006) i joined the Ca national guard and picked my MOS of 19D Cav scout and was shipped off to Ft knox for my 16 weeks(OSUT). At week 13 out of 16,and with 3 weeks to go i shattered 2 bone's in my shoulder due to someone else's failure to listen to instructions and spent the next 3 months and a surgery later in a PTRP unit. Had the chance of starting it all over and finishing, but i gave it my all and spent alot of time away from family and my job. Those will be my best memorie's by far

I served in the army from 2005 to the beging of 09. I was Airborne Infantry stationed in Alaska with 4-25. I switched MOS's and became a parachute rigger and had a blast going TDY all over the world. Deployed twice with 7th group out of Fort Bragg. Loves the army. Wish I never got out. I had the best time of my life and would go back in a heartbeat if I had to. So if ur think about joining ignore those pshyco liberals who all the do is bad mouth and protest te military. They aren't true Americans. Do yourself a favor and have the time of your life serving your country.
