What is your opinion on the new model 710? I got one for rough hunting situations and rainy days. It seems to work well for the price. What do you think?

I just got the 710 30-06 and have sighted it in using Remington 180gr Core-lokt shells. I had no problems putting rounds in a four inch radius at 100 yards using a bench rest once it was calibrated.
The bolt is kind of tight, but should come around with more use. I did not experience any jams using the clip.
Considering it's light weight, there was minimal kick associated with it.
I noticed this on the Remington web site today:
"Model 710™ Product Safety Warning and Recall Notice"
but the web page has been down so I am not aware of what the problem is quite yet.
It seems to be a good deal for the price (free as a gift) but I have not used it any hunting situations yet.

Its a piece of junk that is accurate. Shoots good but fit and finish is rough and it feels cumbersome. The scope is hardly a step up from a toy. Just my opinion so I hope I didn't hurt any feelings. For only a little more you could get a nice used rifle and scope that you can be proud of and that will last a lifetime. Xorcist, I sure hope you can get that rifle shooting better than a 4 inch group. A 2" 100 yard group is barely acceptable for hunting. A 1" group is much better. Don't stop until you can reach these levels. Try different ammo. Your rifle will like some brands and weights more than others.

Well, this is my first rifle so what can I say.
It was about -10 windchill with 30+ mph gusts of wind.
As for the rifle, bash it all you want but to me it will be everything I need for the deer season here in Michigan where shots are very rarely over 100yds in the area's I hunt.

My cousin has one. I am the one who picked it out for him and then set it up for him. It is capable of putting 3 shots close enough to cut each others paper hole. I know because I shot several types of ammo through it, Winchester Power Points 130grain was the best. Rem core lock was all over the place.
This gun is a very good representative for value priced rifles. If you think it is going to be comparable to a $1,000 rifle, well its not. But it preforms the task it was meant for.
If you want a gun to take off the rack once a year to go deer hunting and maybe knock off a few pesky groundhogs, then this is the gun you want.
If you want a gun to last a lifetime and be able to travel several states for all types of game and then pass it on to your children, then look for another gun.
I hope that this was the kind of info you were looking for.
Although a gun can be considered precious, some view it as a tool for the task at hand, so if it works for them and they do well with it then go for it.

Beardbuster,
If you already got one, then it doesn't really matter what we think, does it?
How does it shoot?
Now, if you were still shopping for an economy rifle that you don't mind beating up in bad weather... then I'd direct you to the Savage over the Remington 710, hands down.
But you've already bought, and you probably won't be sorry. After a season or so, you can probably get a gunsmith to touch up things that bug you, like rough action or trigger, and maybe do a bedding job. Other than that, heck, it's a decent firearm and well enough built to last a real long time.
