6mm Rem with 55g Nosler BT. 3,600 fps and right around 2,000 ft-lbs. That's clear shot only. 85g Sierra spitzers for other situations. 3,200 fps and still right around 2,000 ft-lbs. Topped off with a Tasco World Class 50mm 3x9. Action is a Tradewinds with a set trigger.

Springfield 03-A3 30-06 - birthday present when I was 14 years old. One day I couldn't get it to shoot good any more. The military barrel was shot out. I had it totally customized. Bedded, floated, trigger, Electroless nickle plated, new Douglas premium barrel, muzzel brake, 3x9-x40 scope, refinished black walnut stock. Guess I got whole new rifle.
Shoots under an inch @ 100yds.
Just love it !!

A Pre-64 .30-06 Featherweight. It had beuhler rings and 6x Kohler Morgan scope which would occassionally leave me with "scope nose." I changed over to a Leopold 3x9.
It has a custom stock which is glass bedded. The factory barrel still produces 1" groups--some days 3/4"--with 61 gr RE 19 & a 150 gr. Nosler Partition bullet.

Favorite and only (until recently) weapon for big game is Winchester M70 Classic (pre '64 action) Stainless in 300 winmag with BOSS. ######Shoots accurate and flat with 150 gr power point (BOSS setting at 6.5) Baush and Lomb 3x-9x-40mm (just switched to Rainguard model Elite 3200).
Taken deer and pig. Just got a Blaser R93 LRS2 in .308 w/pivoting Harris Bipod topped with Springfield Armory 4-14x56 3rd Generation Government Model 7.62 mm scope. Only been at the range with so far. Shoots extremly tight. Zeroed at 200m best 3 shot group so far is .375 and 5 shot group at .7. Not consistent yet, sure that will come with practice.

Hey all,
The best shooting hunting rifle I have is a left-handed Browning Stainless Stalker in .300WM - with the BOSS. I can print 5 shots through the same hole at 100 when I shoot Hornady Custom ammo in 165gr. Other ammo prints sub-one inch.
Optics - Leupold VariXIII 4.5-14X50 AO. Leupold bases/rings.

Hard choice. By a small margin it would be my .375 H & H Magnum in the Browning A-Bolt Stainless with the factory synthetic stock and iron sights sighted in at 75 yards, and scoped with:
a Tasco would Class 3-9 Rangefinder Scope and a set of B square stainless detachable mount, (with a leathermann or stubby screwdriver) in about one minute.

My favorite pea shooter is my Remington/Shilen .220 Swift. I built this one when Jesse and I started whackin So Cal squirrels a couple years ago. I started off shooting the NEF youth rifle in .22 Hornet then thought we might get more mist at 200 yards with a bit bigger stick.
Web page has more details:

My favorite rifle is my .22-250 that I bought at a pawn shop in Washington for $250. It is custom made with a Mowzer bolt action and a ruger nickle plated barrel. That thing is dead on at 300 yards. I love it. I want to get a Ruger M77 in the .270 cal soon also. They are nice guns. I have always been a Ruger fan.

INTERESTING ! I am actually semi-surprised that most everyone likes their "deer" rifles as their favorite. Maybe, partly because this is the varmint section?!
I'm honestly not sure if I have a favorite. I do like my Browning A bolt 300 mag and it is extremely accurate (maybe not quit as Songdongs 243?). However, I have owned tons of different calibers & liked them all.
I guess if there is just one gun I would never want to part with &/or might be my favorite, it could be my mini 14, 223 cal?! It is just plain fun, along with the risks of semi auto's becoming more rare each day.
I guess I just like them all.

My favorite Rifle to hunt with is the 7mm Mag. I customed mine with a Walters recess barrel, 28 inch long, with 1 in 9 inch twist. I made the thumb hole stock around 10 years ago, floating the barrel. The action is Win.
My second best hunting gun is the Dan Wesson 445 supermag.

Frank, don't want to step on toes here....but this is really the Rifle section. But your'e point is well taken.
What round do you shoot with your'e .300? It's one of my favorite cal's.
Interesting you would choose the Mini. I love mine, it get's a ton of bad press....but keep's on shooting, almost without fail.

Ha! Yes, Kernhuntr I realized it right after I sent it. Forgot what section I was in at the time. Good eye!
I use the nosler balistic tip, 165 gr bullet. One accurate load is 71grs of RL19 around 2900fps from my 26" barrel. I have kdf, not boss, so have all 26 inches of barrel. It puts 5 shots in 1/2 to 3/4" at 100yds.
I also use 77grs of RL 19 at 3250 fps for approx 1" groups. Opens up a little more at higher speed.
I might put a 20" heavier custom barrel on my mini 14, for better accuracy, velocity and weight, reducing the minimal muzzle jump even more, staying on running targets better.

The only hunting rifle I have can handle just about anything in North America. ######Its the Weatherby Accumark in 338-378 scoped with a Swarovski 6-24 x 50 with Harris bipod and military sling. ######Factory 225 X bullets have worked well on javalina and (just three weeks ago) wild pig.

My favorite has to be my Ruger M77 .280 with a Redfield 3x12x44. Loaded with 139 gr. Hornady light magnums. I have always been pleased with the results.

Weatherby Ultra Lightweight in 308, Weaver scope, is my most used hunting rifle now. ######It weighs 6.75 with scope and rings and works well for the backpack type hunting that I do.

Right now my favorite is my only rifle bigger than .22: A Ruger .44 Carbine. ######Works well with hot-loaded 300gr JSPs, and Remington Core-Lockt (270gr). Want to try some of that
http://www.buffalobore.com/ammunition/default.htm#44
My favorite rifle really should be a Browning A-Bolt in .308, but I don't have one of my own yet!

We hunt deer in Wyoming and deer in CA. The ranges are longer in Wyo. so I shoot a 7 Rem Mag. in a Winchester M70. In Wyoming you need a caliber that shoots at least 3000 feet per second with a bullet of good sectional density. The 7mm Mag provides this. In CA, shorter range, I use a 308, also in an M70. Just as an aside, I used to shoot a Ruger M77 with the sliding saftey on the top of the pistol grip. But, I found that the web of my hand would slide the safety off as I was walking. I thought it was a bad design. The Winchester, of course, used the three position safety located up on the rear of the bolt, out of the way.

It depends on location and conditions.
Close range hunting in the bush country:
Win. 94 open sights chambered in .32 Win. 170grains
Open range, long shots, coyote or deer, low wind:
Rem 600, 6mm, currently topped with a Weaver 2.5x7 wide angle, 90-100 grain
Open range, long shots, coyote or deer, high(er) wind
Rem 700 30-06, Bushnell 4x12x50AO, 150-168 grains
If I had to limit myself to one gun? Probably the 06, because of it's flexibility, and dead nuts accuracy.

I might as well post here for my first post on this forum.
This is a tough one though. Last Year 98% of the time I carried a T/C Encore in .250 Savage. 16 1/4" Barrel, Tasco 2.5-10 Varmint Scope w/ Mil-Dot. I shot a handload with a 100 gr Ballistic Tip over H-380. The year before I never left the house without my Guide Gun.
But this year I have bought a Savage 99 in .358 Win, topped it with a Bushnell Elite 3200 2-7x and it looks like the load will include either a 180 or 220 grain Speer Flat Point.
Each year I have added a more effective or maybe better suited gun for the type of hunting I do. Evolution I guess. Sean

Big 17,
Welcome to Jesses, I really like the 264 Win Mag, you don't see many now-a-days, but it is an excellent cartridge.

My favorite is the one I bought after high school. A Remington 788 .308 w/ a bull barrel. Shoots like a 0.5" MOA at 100 yards. Need to get a new scope for it something in the 1x5 or 2x7 range. I really need a wide field of view in the brush country I hunt. Does anyone have a good suggestion that won't brake the bank?

well I vote for my 340 weatherby fibermark 26" with the 3.5 x 14 leopold scope and sling, its custom beded and yeah it weighs about 9.7lbs its not light but Ive had it for about 8 years and it replaced a wood stock twin that I hunted with for 19 years and keep in reserve, now most of my buddies have lighter rifles, but Im 6'3" 265lbs and I feel the ability to make 1 very accurate shot with plenty of power perfectly placed is the most important quality a rifle can have and over the years every elk and mule deer I shot with it traveled no more than 30 feet so Ive no intention of even looking for another rifle, this one fed a handload of 83 grains of 4831 and a 225grn hornady ######shoots 3 shot groups in any weather of about 1.15 inches

my hunting partner stopped bye, saw this and asked if he could add one, (he does not have a computer)
well pauls 340 works great for him but I really prefer my BROWNING BLR IN 358 WIN with a 2-7 LEOPOLD SCOPE,(WHICH RARELY GETS OFF 3X) it shoots under 1" 3 shot groups (off the sand bag rest at the range)it shoots a 250 grn speer bullet at 2300fps and is so fast and slick to handle and fire in the thick timber and that second shot is instantly available, that I can,t really fault it in any way. now Im sure someone will bring up the supposed lack of power or range and on paper that might be valid but in 35 plus years of hunting ######ELK ######Ive shot 11 and not one was over 200 yards and not even one made it further than 50 yards after being hit with the 358s 250 grn slug, now I hear it all the time, yeah but some day your going to get a 400yard shot and be severly out of range,...to which I always reply, it has not happened in 35 years and I doubt it will happen in the next 20 or so while I still hunting, besides if you cant get within 200 yards in the heavy timber I hunt youll never see an elk anyway. besides one look at the damage that 250 grn slug does to an elk even at 200 yards and youll forget all about the armchair B.S. this rifle hits like THORS HAMMER, not one person can believe the hole this rifle makes in an ELKs chest, you can,t really improve on 100% success and I sure don,t want to carry a long, heavy rifle in the timber like PAUL does.
