We have a 3 year old fox terrier who is really getting into catching ground squirrels. Last year my husband taught her to catch and kill squirrels as they crawl out of a flooded hole (he floods the hole and she waits at the other hole). She caught and killed 25 squirrels in about 2 minutes that time. In the last few weeks she has learned how to go through pipes after the squirrels, which is a big accomplishment for her. Just yesterday she chased a squirrel through and around a pipe about 20 times. The squirrel would have made it, but it paused at the end of the pipe and she caught it and dealt with it. I praised her for it and told her what a good dog she was. My husband suggested that now we need to teach her how to bring the squirrels to us. In the past when she caught squirrels, I had her drop them so that she wouldn't eat them. Is it possible for her to learn to bring them to us and drop them at our feet, or have we already taught her to drop them as soon as she kills them? How can we reteach her to bring them to us? She is a really intelligent dog (and no, I'm not exaggerating because she is our dog) and seems to pick up really quick on commands and expected behaviors. Any suggestions would be great.
