I live in Anaheim and I'm from Minden, NV.

I moved here thinking I would hunt Hogs but time and $$$ have kept a lid on it. I hope to get a chance before I move back next year.

Hi!

I live in LA not by choice. I love pig hunting and have seen two pigs at WU ranchs. I have a PSE Triton and a 270 Savage. I will be archery hunting Aug 19th at Cummings for the D-zone deer opener but I wouldn't mind sticking a hog. If anyone is a WU member you can always e-mail me. Thanks;

Hello all Call me Dave

First off, hogs are a very impressive and smart animal. May be blind and smell funny, but nonetheless have great sense of smell, know how to scare the heck out of ya...

I am a California Native, have lived and hunted in the central valley all my life. I started hunting with my legally blind dad when i was 12 or 13? Started on upland game with a .410 then shortly was of to the 12 ga 870 express! Years passed that i didnt hunt, then i met this great girl J... Well her dad owns some awesome property in the central valley and i have been hunting on it ever since. I am fortunate in the sense that i not only have somewhere to hunt but have been able trade hunts for hunts.

So i have tried Cottonwood Creek upper and some of the hills in monterey for my hogs. Only luck was in the central valley on some private land near the hills in tracy and some farm land out there too...

I have shot 2 hogs with a 12 ga slug, and my last hog with a 06. A slug at 30 yards is no joke! I want to start using bow avidly and for the rest of my hog hunting life.

My first hog was taken when i was hungint for upland game near tracy, when a boar jumped out of some brush at me and my Yellow Lab. I luckily had my .45 acp side arm and someslugs with me. quick reaction led to a good dodge on this boar and he then had a .45 acp followed by a slug. My second boar was taken in some old feilds with corn and berries all around. i though i had spotted 2 hogs one day, then hugn out until evening sure enough. I stalked in the feild till about 30 yds, took a broad side shot elimniating both shoulders and anything in between with 12 ga slug, it went clean through...
dream hunt is to take a trophy boar with a bow in cali somewhere. A totally silent stealth kill...

currently use 870 express with rifle barrel, 30-06, or want to use my 60# high country lender compound.

Hi, my name is Dale. I'm from Ohio.
I travel to south Tx every year for hogs and javies (ten years)
I hunt with a bow and mostly from ground blinds, sometimes short tripods.
We hunt a ranch in Webb county that is around 100,000 acres.
Most years we have about 6000 to 8000 acres to ourselves.
The majority of our pigs are taken at night, we like to book our hunt around the full moon.
We have tried everything from lasers to mini maglites mounted on our stabilizers with pressure switches.
I am currently using a red dot on my Matthews, and my buddy is shooting a Robertson recurve with no lights or sights.
We have taken as many as 18 animals on an 8 day hunt between the two of us.
Anyone who has hunted down there know's it is not uncommon to get 2-3 bowshots a day.
I think that was one reason I got hooked. Besides the smarts that alot of them hogs have!
Anyways, I'll be looking forward to spending some time here and sharing info!

Neat site, wish i would've found it earlier. I'm new not only to the sport but to guns also.. I'm starting off with a Remington 700 P in 300 win-mag with a harris BRM S bipod and an ATN 4-12X60 scope. Looking forward to my first hog hunt, when I get back state side. I'm military and currently stationed in Yokosuka, Japan on the USS Kitty Hawk and the closest thing I get to guns here is airsoft . Hoping to come back home in feb/mar time frame to come and sharpen up my shooting skills and if possible, do some hog hunting, that would be awesome :).

I just bought a Remington 870 Express 12 guage. I intend to hunt boar with it, but I can't find a slug shell that comes in 3 1/2. Any ideas?

Hi Anduril, and welcome to the forum. Great to have another Tolkein fan aboard!

Might wanna post this question down in the main topics, but just as a quick answer... You don't have to shoot 3.5" shells in the 870... it should be fine with 2 3/4" and 3". Lots of great slugs in the 2 3/4" loading that'll work great on hogs.

Hello to all fellow pig hunters. My name is Everet and I'm fairly new to pig hunting. I live in the Silicon Valley and have decided to get serious about hunting. Bought a little 4x4 and setting it up for hunting. I use a .45 cal inline blackpowder and a 300 win mag. Have been hunting pigs 3x and missed a couple of pigs (out of breath, and waited too long). Hope to make some hunting partners in the years to come thru this site and read stories and learn about hunting pigs. Anyway, I'll add to this forum as experience and knowledge is gained. Thanks, Everet

Welcome aboard, Everet!

You're in a great place to meet folks. I keep threatening to organize a NorCal JHO get-together, but it's just not been in the cards yet. The closest we come are archery hunts at Chopper's (read the forum, you'll see Chopper come up a lot) and the Tejon Pig O Ramas. Lots of good guys on this list.. and a few nutcases like Rancho Loco and Birddawg.

Hello New to the sight.

I'm in orange county, CA. I have been hunting pigs for a couple years now. However, my last 4 hunts have all been at twisselmans ranch. I just got back last night after taking a nice 185lb. red boar. My first pig at twisselmans was a 230lb. Black Boar. I am still waiting on the head mount. I currently hunt pigs with a model 721 remington .270 with lyman peep sights. Great sight here. I'm looking forward to learning about other places to hunt some pig.

I am originally from WA but got into bowhunting while I was stationed in Missouri.
Although I have not been able to get a big hog, I had a partner who got two of them right on Fort LeonardWood, MO while we were there.
I look forward in the future to a good hog hunt............bow or Rifle.

I guess I was spozed to do this before I started posting. Better late than never, I hope. Some of this is repost from another part of JHO.

I live in San Jose, California. I hunt W.U. ranches mostly in central California. I am a pig hunter. So far, deer are smarter than I am. Most of the time the pigs are also smarter than I am.
I started hunting about 1996 or so. I will be 50 this next year. My family was anti hunting when I grew up so it took a long time to figure out what I am.
Calibers I use to hunt are .270 weatherby, 30'06, 45-70 Marlin and 20 ga stackbarrel(for quail and bunnies). Sidearms are either .45acp or .460Rowland. As a little girl I had wondered what it would be like to have a fire breathing dragon perched on my shoulder - now I know and I like it.
I have sort of dragged my mate of thirty or so years into this. He's put up with me and my neandertal side pretty well.
I have taken two pigs. The first was a guided hunt because again, I did not grow with hunting and all my information had been gathered from reading. It took a while to find a guide who was willing to take a woman who'd never hunted out for pig. That was in 2000. The second pig was last year (2005) on a WU ranch.

My dream hunt is where my other half gets a pig and he finally understands what is such big deal about this.

Lompoc California. I hunt exclusively on Vandenberg AFB. Rifle and muzzleloader. Specifically a Ruger No. 1 in 7mm Rem Mag. with 160 Accubond handloads and a p.o.s. winchester apex .50. My hunting partner and I together figured out how to hunt hogs and together managed to kill a bunch and look at literally hundreds of hogs in the last year and a half.

Howdy fellow hogger's!

I thought I'd posted to this thread long ago, but don't see my reply.
Anyhoo, I'm from MO and had my first hog hunt about 10 yrs. ago.
From that moment on I've been hooked!

Have taken them with muzzleloader, handguns, rifles, knives, and finally
with archery gear this past spring. Anyway one can get 'em, is fine with me!

Only hunted hogs in MO and Okla., but hope to expand that in the future.
I'd say my dream hog hunts would be in New Zealand, Africa, California and Hawaii.
Below is a pic of my best so far, on a very hot, humid day.

Well, here is another newbie to this site. As for the general info; I am in San Bernardino Ca. I hunt mostly in the Tehachapi mountains on WU properties (Cummings, Benz) and in the Coalinga area. I use either a PSE Mach-8 or a Contender pistol. I am always looking for a new location or partner to hunt with as my current hunting partner is my 16 year old daughter. I read another post where they hunted Big Horn Ranch which is in the Redlands area. I have been there also and the animals are really a captive audience, to easy and I will not go back.

This is a great site for information it seems. Does anybody have any tips on Southern WU properties as to where to better my chances? I have been to Los Padres and walked my ^*&^) off to no avail, only deer sited. Does anybody know how and where access can be granted to hunt San Timtao (?) canyon. There are hogs in around the Oak Valley development, I have seen them.

Well, thanks for letting me join..

Hi all,
Shot my first pig on a guided hunt at lake sonoma. After that my brother went the following year and struck up a friendship with the guides, who a few years later, got us into a 10Kac lease on some mendocino property...that place rocked! for the first few years, had huge deer and pigs...we dropped that lease because we couldn't afford it and it was too far a drive from the bay area.

I'm looking to find public land to hunt pigs at in northern cal. Have had some leads on friends of friends on private land, but never panned out. Been for FHL once and was skunked (found where the pigs were the last day but we had to leave). Gotten real close on public land up here by sacramento, but also had to get home.

I hunt deer w/my .280, 3-9redfield 5star w/range finder and drop compensator...have my iron site 30-30 for brush. Have private land around lake berryessa, but no hogs there.

My brother has caught a few pigs by jumping off his quad...then we raised them in the yard :) Mom didn't like that much, but she dealt with it for a few months...i'll scan some pics and post them here..lol

Have drifted in and out of this site for some time and have always enjoyed it! I've haven't posted that often but do when I have something to say. I'm from Minnesota and go to Texas each year at the end of Jan. The primary reason is usually to hunt quail but we also hunt hogs, coyote, and bobcat. This year the quail population is not good and we will concentrate on the hogs, coyote and bobcat and leave the few quail for seed. Leave for Texas on the 29th.
