Let me try this again... My name is Jesse and I'm a Huntaholic. There, that works a little better! I live in Sunny San Diego (Santee to be specific) and hunt mostly upland game - Dove, Quail, Rabbit, Pheasant (still trying to get my first big bird).

I went on my first ever D16 Muley hunt this October and really enjoyed myself! Didn't get one, but I heard a noise in the bushes and emptied my entire clip towards the sound.

HAHAHHA -Not really, I joke around A LOT! I hiked through and glassed some of the rockiest, cactus filled canyons I've ever seen, for 5 days. Saw some good deer sign, but no actual warm blooded animals. On the last afternoon I decided there were no more deer and it was time to kill a few of the abundant Quail that had been taunting me for the last 4.5 days (they will actually come up and eat food right out of your hand when they KNOW you don't have a shotgun). So I walked back to camp, grabbed my Beneli Nova 12ga Pump and hiked 10 minutes. What do I see? No, not millions of quail as I had all week... but a nice little 2x3 Desert Mule deer, walking slowly broad side about 90 yards out. And I'm holding a 12ga with birdshot... no slugs, and no 30.06

. Well, I'll get him next year. Maybe he'll be a 3x3 then...

O.k. I got totally off subject. I want to go pig hunting in May. I'll eat anything I kill once. If I don't like it, I won't kill it again. I'm thinking FHL or CR. Tejon seems a bit $$$ up for me.

I own a sporterized Springfield Armory 1903-a3 in 30.06. Scoped with a Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 (LOVE IT!). Very accurate combo, if I do say so myself. I also want to get into muzzleloading.

I heard about JHO some time ago. The first time I was on the site my wife said: "Wow - Jesse, you started a hunting website?! That's amazing! I'm so proud of you." It was about a week before I admitted it was someone else with the same name. hahahaha!

And finally, I joined this website because I posted on BigGameHunt that I was interested in going Pig Hunting in Cali and "Cda55" referred me to this site again. So here I am. Can't wait to have a glass of good Scotch some night soon and go digging around in all of your old posts.

A CO-WORKER & I WERE SUCCESSFULLY GUIDED BY THE EXCELLENT FRANK MORASCI OF MUSTANG GUIDE SVC'S IN '99. EVER SINCE, WE HAVE BEEN BITTEN BY THE "HOG BUG". WAS TALKING ABOUT HOG HUNTING IN CHURCH ONE SUNDAY, WHEN A BRO. SAID HIS DAD TRAPS BIG ONES EVERY NIGHT. I SAID WHEREEEEEE!!!!!!!! HE SAID HOUSTON, TX. SO FINALLY MADE THAT TRIP TO TX. I am Fromm Moorpark, CA. I go hunting With my Brother Reddog5. We hunt alot in the Los Padres National Forest. Ive been on one guided pig hunt were i had a blast. My brother took me and our dad. It was alot of fun. MY pig was 75 lbs at the butcher.

hi my name is tony and i am from simi valley ,ca.
i have been hunting boar on and off for boar for the past 6 years.
i reasontly went to a fully guided Tejon Ranch hunt and was reworded with a small but tasty 150 lb boar and i also went on a trophy boar hunt up north close to fort hunter ligget. i got a very rare all gray bruzer boar that was 300 lbs and a black and white sow that was a good 180 lbs. i look forward to meeting some of you on the upcoming Ham Slam in may.

Hello Everyone,

Well, I'm probably one of the lucky ones. We own a ranch near King City Ca. Hog hunting is something we do to control "those darn critters!" There is some great hog hunting in western Fresno Co as well as Monterey Co., but the problem is most of it is private. I have tons of guns, but I must say that I have harvested most of my hogs with one of my 30-06 and a muzzle loader.

In cool weather I use a bow, Matthews ultra- Lite. I carry a Taurus 40 Cal. I have had to use it a few times on wounded hogs. In warmer weather I use a30-06 or 270. I hunt in south east Texas. This year We got a 325 lb.boar and a 500+ boar.

Well hey, I guess I am the new guy. Been trying to get away from this machine and what happens? I read about this forum and all progress to leave is lost.

I hunt the North Fork area( which is not far from Coarsegold). I hunt pretty resticted privat property here to keep the hog somewhat in check so the don't root up all the pasture land but it is getting pretty political with everyones private agendas. Been thinking about going over by King city to the Los Padres and turning the dogs out there but got to get better aquainted with the area first. Got a few pics at the site listed below. As far as a dream hunt....any successful hunt where the dogs are in one piece is successful. It'll be great talkin to folks into hog huntin in Calif

Hello i am from Modoc county and i hunt hogs on different properties on the west side of I-5 between Williams and Red bluff.Hog hunting is my favorite hunt.I have been doing it for years.My wife and kids have gotten into it as well.I like that you get to do it all year long!!!

I'm Justin. I'm from San Antonio Texas moved to sacramento califonria a little over 10 years ago. I'm hoping to through away my 25-06 rifle pretty soon and just hunt with a bow. I dont have a bow worth speaking of at the moment but will soon enough, probably even then a cheap pse nova or a browning (the rage) either would do me fine.

I do most my hunting in Northern California. I hunt everything from Hogs, to deer and turkey. Those 3 are what I hunt most of anyway. I believe I've taken 10 hogs.

Hello everybody. I am new in this enternet site. I live in Los Angeles area. I am married and have a little boy who is already and outdoors lover.
My wife doesn't hunt and doesn't care much about hunting.

I am glad to have found people with the same interest. I have been a hunter since birth. I had the fever in my blood. and now for many years am hunting hugs with rifle or bow. My bow experience has only been on private land but I have hunted Paso Robles, and FHL with rifle and have had some success.
Most my friends are non hunters. My dream is to find a group of people that I could count on, learn somthing from and go hunting with.

Welcome aboard, Bolt Sniper. You're not too far away. We'll soon have to have some kind of Bay Area JHO gathering, at this rate.

Anyway, have you found it difficult to get access to properties up around Boulder Creek and that area? I've only asked around a very little, but I'd probably make the drive if I knew the odds were better of getting permission.

It's pretty tough... Some people place signs/notes on a community bulletin board at the local grocery stores offering hog removal services. hehehe... But I hear it's hard, especially since most people in this area don’t own the land and if they do its only an acre or so. So, between that and the local animal loving politics the chances of hunting this area are pretty minimal. If one does luck out and does get permit ion, than the person needs to be able to hump some serious terrain and heavy timbered areas. I'm sure you've been in the area. Fortunately for me, I know some folks in walking distance who own 180 acres + . This property boundaries Big Basin State park so map knowledge and property lines are a must. The bad part is that Big Basin trapped 600 hogs last year killing my chances, and my hunting has been very bad because most of them traveled to this property. I did get one last week though! You'll see it in my profile page.

Congrats on getting one. I know that after Big Basin finished their trapping last year, the hog sign dried up all over the place! That's a pretty big impact.

I have a friend up on Skyline with about 40 acres which she's managing for native habitat. If pigs show up, she calls me right away. Unfortunately (fortunately for her), she doesn't really have anything on her property to draw them, so all she sees is the occasional passers-by.

I know there are a bunch of wineries up there, but it seems like they're mostly hunted by friends and family.

Anyway, welcome again, and pull up a stump by the fire.

New to this forum, raised here on Hawaii, first pig hunt at age 15 30 years ago on island of Oahu, started hunting with my good childhood buddy, favorite gun my Marlin 1894 44 Mag a present from Dad at age 16, owned my first boat at age 8 been fishing since age 5, favorite fish is Mahimahi.
Nothing like a good hunt or fishing trip with good friend, and a barbeque with ice cold beers afterwards to celebrate.

Dream pig hunting trip: Africa for Bush Pig, Forest Pig, and Wart Hog.

I hunted hogs a few times on public land back in the late 1980's-- Los Padres National Forest around Arroyo Grande, also up around King City, and I made one trip to Cottonwood Creek up there above San Luis Reservoir-- all without success. After a long hiatus, punctuated with occasional deer hunts, I'm hunting hogs again.

I feel too damned old and I am too much out of shape to climb up and down in Los Padres NF anymore, so I decided to wise up and hire a guide.

I had an unsuccessful trip with Kyler Hamann back in 2003. Unsuccessful for me, anyway, though one of our party blasted a big bore which weighed in at 270-280 lbs. I'm going out with Kyler again next week (6/2004), we'll see what comes of it.

I hunt with a Ruger .270 (a Mod. 77 Mk. I) and a Marlin Guide Gun in .45-70. God willing, the Marlin will be blooded next week (i.e., I'll take a hog with it).

I learned to hunt with a couple college friends and also by trial-and-error. My dad doesn't hunt, though his dad was quite the hunter and poacher. My Grandfather lived in rural Oregon and, after losing a leg in a railroad accident, he shot many deer who were dumb enough to try and steal from his garden. He used a .22 and shot them in the neck from his garage window.

My dream hunt would be a week or so in a nice lodge, with plenty of opportunity for catching up on sleep, smoking cigars, and no other hunters for miles, save for a couple of friends, and maybe my son when he grows up a little.

I've lived in San Benito County, CA my whole life. Been hunting pigs for as long as I can remember. I shoot a Ruger Vaquero .45 LC, Weatherby .300 winmag, or an Eagle Ridge bow. Hunt mostly private land as there is not much public land in this county. Most ranches in area are overrun with hogs. My dream hog hunt would probably be in Hawaii, I hear they have some real tuskers over there.

I am from Texas and hunt on our family property for hogs. We have been hunting them for as long as I can remember so I guess I just picked it up along the way.
I am currently using a PSE Enforcer and the old tried and true Marlin 30-30. I guess my dream hog hunt would be for Russian Boar on its native turf.

I might have already answered this thread. But, it's late and I had a few cervezas tonight. So what the hay. I'm from San Diego and dang proud of it! I hunt hogs at Tejon Ranch in Cali. However, they're raisin' the price. So, I might be movin' to Central CaliforniA. I love them hogs. I want to stick one with a knife. Anybody out there got a set up that would make for a nice three dayer. Stick a few hogs, drink some cerveza, and sleep in a nice bed. I'm thinking of getting some of my home boys that don't hunt, takin' them pig huntin', and have a seriously fun time. Maybe mix in a little fishin' down around Port A.

My name is Richard and I live in Murrieta Ca. I'm originally from Chino, Ca.

I first learned to hunt (deer) while I was stationed in Albany Ga. One of the Marines in my platoon was a deer hunter from Michigan and he needed some one to go out hunting with so he got me started. I didn't bring home any meat but I had a great time. When I got orders back to Camp Pendleton I started looking into hog hunting and I found out about Vandenburg AFB (it's only open to military members). So I got a couple of guys from my platoon and we went to Vandenburg and got skunked on our first hog hunt.

My second hog hunt was right after the war with Iraq. I went out looking for hogs with some of the local Iraqis. Who else can say they went hunting in Iraq with the locals?! We didn't get anything hut we saw a lot of signs of hog but came back to our camp without any meat. I really wanted to see if a 3 round burst from my M16 would drop a pig.

Right now I'm trying to set up my next hunt. Anyone have room for me on their next trip? Have gun, bow and leave papers ready, will travel.

My dream hunt is to actually bring home the bacon so the wife will stop making fun of me. One of these days I'd like to hunt in Texas. I need one of my fellow Marines to take me home with them so I can get this experiance.

Hey Guys and Gals, my name is Mike and I live in Charlotte, NC.

I Hunt in South Caroliina on a Club and do quite a bit of hunting on the game management areas. Hunting in the public might be a little harder, than the club thing but it is well worth it to me. Take a boat and get away from everybody.U get to meet all kinds at them public campgrounds.

I have taked 12 hogs with a gun. The next one i take will be with my bow. Season opens in 8 hrs so wish me luck! lol. I'm really looking foward to it. C ya

I hunt in Central California. I've hunted private and public with success. I usually can get a hog for about $150 in Kern County. Sometimes I trade taxidermy work for hunts or other things. Recently I was given a gun safe that I will try to trade for a pig hunt.

Home is Merritt Island, FLorida (also home of NASA's Kennedy Space Center).
Mims, Florida along the St. Johns River is where the hogs are.

Favorite rifles and hand guns for hogs include: .270 Win.; .338 Browning BAR; .243 Sako; .22LR Ruger K77/22RP; and .45LC Ruger Blackhawk SA in 7.5" bbl.

I started hog hunting following the purchase of 20 acres in hard timber and the place was full of hogs. Seems I have a lot of the high ground when the river rises. The surrounding State land is a GIGANTIC wildlife pump. Between hogs, deer, turkey, and squirrel, there just about is no other place I would rather hunt - than Africa. Never been there, but would love the opportunity.

I have lived here in Monterey County my entire life. I hunt mainly for deer and pigs, with a few dove and quail hunts when I get the chance. I had the great fortune to be able to hunt a 6000 acre ranch for seven years which was probably the finest hunting I have experienced including Nevada and Colorado. Unforunately the ranch has now been sold so I have not be able to locate another lease yet.

I have hunted exotics on a couple of different ranchs and they are a blast with a bow. I rifle hunt with a 257 Weatherby and I have a Bear Epic extreme bow. My twelve year old boy is an even more hunting fanatic than I am and his 3 year old brother is showing the same trait, thank God.

I am free to BS about our obession at any time. I would say that 99.9% of all the hunters ,and especially the bowhunters, that I know and have met are straight up people. The few that are Idiots, I do not hunt with.

I believe that hunters have an obligation to the game we hunt to do the hunting using good ethics and to hunt our game honorably. Some of the best hunts that I have had have been when no game was taken, but the experience was well worth the time spent.

I live outside of San Antonio in McQueeney, Tx. I am going on my first hog hunt this Saturday morning.....24hrs away!!! I will be taking my 13yr old daughter along. We will be using a 30-30 for the hogs, and a .22cal rifle for her to try a few critters. We'll be hunting a 2000acre ranch, all alone, this Saturday and Saturday night. I will post some pics of our hunt trip when we return.....hopefully with a cooler full of pork.
