If you don't know the differance between catching a baseball and selling it or killing something and selling it or the story we have a problem, I have no problem if someone sells a story to OL or some other magazine, IT'S JUST THE WAY THIS THREAD IS GOING DOWN THAT STICKS IN MY CRAW.
It won't be long before the anti-hunt people turn this type of thing around and show the sale of a BC animal bringing big $$$ or how someone held out for $$$ to tell his story, how do you think that will sit with people that think it's OK to hunt for food they understand because a family member did it Grandpaw uncle who ever, but when you get into the game of killing a mgnificent animal for monetary gain you will lose there support.
Where not talking shoot and release here

Man, it's time this thread got a little better. Okay, here's a rifle kill brought to me about 10 years ago to be measured. The hunter chose NOT to officially enter it in the B&C book, as he didn't want the recognition. I chose to measure it anyway, because it is a TOAD and I like holding big bucks.
This buck was not only shot in a D zone, but technically, SOUTHERN California (D-12). When I lived out there (Blythe), I scored MANY rifle kills that would amaze people if they knew they were CA bucks! I still say one of the biggest typicals I have EVER seen was in this area. Would probably have netted around 205". Furthermore, both CBH records (typical & non-typical) are from this exact area.
This buck's (picture) outside spread was about 33" and some change. He grossed about 208 I believe, and netted 195" and some change. IF entered, he would be the biggest typical entered into B&C from CA.
So see, there's hope after all and there are some BIG bucks in CA in certain zones. Kudos to the hunter who killed the monster buck we're waiting to see, no matter what zone in CA. I'll wait patiently for the photos to appear, but until then enjoy this photo.

Am I missing something? I have been following this thread on and off for a bit and I am confused. Is the hunter trying to get money or endorsements for a story or has he been asked by a publication not to post pictures until a story runs? I can understand if it is the latter of the two. If he just wants cash or endorsements I think that he might be peeing into the wind. A deer has got to be extremely huge to get consideration for any kind of endorsement deal. While a mid 190's deer is rare to each individual person, especially considering the locations we all hunt, there are quite a few that get killed in the US and Mexico every year. Heck, we averaged 194" out of 11 bucks in Mexico last year. Let me know what the skinny on this is. And to think that all this time I have been letting people run stories on our deer for free.....

The only story here is the mess the thread has become with people posting. Here's the way it played out.
1. a guy posts story of a friends large buck
2. The shooter asks his friend not to give out details or pictures.
3. it is assumed that a story may be coming out in a mag and releasing details here would reduce the value (if any) of that story.
4. everyone goes ape s%$t and the thread grows like a tumor.
That's the story. I know other than the last big buck pic the story should be long dead and when/if the story comes out in a mag we can all ooooo and ahhhh over how beautiful the monster really is.........

I say if this thread sickens ya then go get sick and don't come back.. It is just a general chat now about large deer and what it might mean to get one. It is enjoyed by those that participate.. I go so far as to say if one has a problem with making money off something then go live with Bin Laden in his dark cave as your dead to the reality that we as humans are charged with taking care of your families or yourselves as best you can. Use yer frontal lobe, that is why God gave it to ya. If yer a closet vegan go back in there and eat a cucumber. If yer against fur then go wrap yer self in oil taken from your prescious mother Earth. Personally my belief is that God gave us the animals to benefit from and that doesn't have to mean from just their meat. People been making money on raising animals for all sorts of reasons forever now and so how is antlers any different? Not only can you make money on a big pair but you can plow the back forty too...
Nice rack bohntr!!
ps./ sorry about rant but I figured since Bush didn't someone better had, plus if that volcano can belch so can I.

i am just glad we are all mature adults and can take this story for what it is. the truth for now until next year and if we dont see this deer in a mag or back on here for all our prying eyes then we will all know it was BS. I believe in this deer and this story it what keeps me going throughout the day. just kidding if we see it we seeit, if we dont we dont. keep and eye out in trophy hunter and eastmans.

If a guy can make a few bucks advertising his deer then more power to him, I just fail to see how a mid 190's deer will generate any revenue if in fact that it what is being done.
As for the lucky hunter, if there is one, congrats on a deer most of us would give a left pinky finger for.

Jee whiz...he's not THAT great a buck. He was 22 inches inside. Scored a wet 147 net after 2 deduction points. Very typical...but no mass. But big bodied.
It was a Nevada buck. No zones. Sorry guys.
I posted it to lighten up the expectations on the "monster buck' in CA. We call this deer a 'dinky' deer. Never expected the congrats...but thanks nontheless.
And yes...I shot him in the but before I gained my composure and sat down to take a clean shot in the boiler room. I ruined some of the rear quarter but it did not hit bone so I think some is salvagable.

I just had to bump this to the top, given the legit "monster" over here in this thread...
http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/index....showtopic=80907
If we believe the as yet unsubstatiated claims in this here thread, I guess the buck in the other thread would be considered on the small side.
