AB 352 (Koretz, D-W. Hollywood) would expand the definition of "unsafe handgun" to include semiautomatic pistols that are not designed and equipped with a microscopic array of characters that identify the make, model, and serial number of the pistol , and which are transferred by imprinting onto each cartridge case when the firearm is discharged.[/b]

SB 357 (Dunn, D- Santa Ana) would require that the bullet in each loaded handgun cartridge, handgun bullets sold for reloading, and all .22 rimfire ammunition bullets, have a unique serial number imprinted that is registered to the buyer at the time of purchase through linkage to his or her drivers license or other government issued identification bearing the persons picture.[/b]

I cannot imagine that the cost of producing a micro-stamp enabled firearm would not be passed on to all consumers, nation wide. The other possibility is that manufacturers refuse to ship any product to the state of California; regardless of the purchaser - civilian or LEO. Has anyone heard whether micro-stamping is a viable and reliable process? Next legislative ammendment might be to require annual registration fee and physical testing of the micro-stamping device. Just like the California "unsafe handgun" requirements mandate now.
