I've never hooked my Garmin up to Google Earth directly. Is that even possible?
I use Map Source to upload/download. Then, inside Map Source, I go to:
View --> View in Google Earth
and that creates a .KML file (I think) and automatically x-fers everything over to Google Earth for me. That's the only way I've ever done it.

acousticmood,
You won't go wrong with a Garmin. It's the ONLY brand with any customer service (to speak of) and theirs is stellar.
Sean, What's the verdict?

I have solved all the problems. Their customer service is really good. I emailed them the problem and got it taken care of.
Garmin to google earth directly: yes its possible. once GE detects it, you will have 2 icons on the top that become active. I dont remember what exactly they are called but something like Receive info and Send Info. you will see it.
Garmin is great once you spend a few days learning it all. Email me if you had questions.
Just in case you have a mac, this is how I solved my problem: I downloaded a software they have on the website that updates your garmin. (I bought my garmin used and it was I think 2006 model. Never been used , never hooked up to a computer) I hooked up my garmin to that and updated the software. Then , roadtrip which is a garmin software (downloaded from their site) was able to see it. GE too. Look around you may be able to find a decent used one. I got a great deal:$150 from Craigslist+cigaret lighter charger+extra antena that goes on the car+ rack that goes on the dashboard + its holster. And its never been used. The newer version of the same one is selling for about $300.

Garmin rules when it comes to GPS. Mapquest is wrong and so is Google when it comes to finding rural addresses. ATT Navigator is accurate and of course so is the Garmin C60 series.
