GPS Coord Help
I am in need of a little help. I just got my Garmin Colorado 400T. So far, it looks pretty good. This is my first GPS, so I am am learning my way. How do I take the coords (lat/long) I find on Google Earth and input them into my garmin. I know how to change the lat/long on my garmin. The problem I am seeing is on my GPS, I dont have enough slots to add numbers. I am seeing more numbers on google eath. Is some sort of conversion required from google eath to my gps? Heres how I am seeing it..
Google Earth Coords: 37 37 06 90 N 118 49 23 16 W
Garmin GPS Coords: 37 37.069 N 118 49 231
In my GPS I cant add the "0" to the N or the "6" in the W..Not enough slots. When I add the coords in my garmin, it is taking me to the "general area", but it appears to be a little off....

The Google earth numbers are in Latitude/longitude format DD.MM.SS (degree, minutes and seconds and the second is looks like the GPS format in DD.MM.MMM.
In google earth, you can change the Lat/long format to match your Garmin. Its probably easier to change it on google earth than the garmin. Its one of the menu selections at the top.
Doesn't really matter which one you change as long as they're both the same.

LtDann is correct. Change one to match the other. And it really doesn't matter which one.
On the other hand, I'm a math person and like making calculations. It's easy to convert from one to the other. There are 60 minutes in a degree and 60 seconds in a minute. Sooooooo, all you need to do to convert from one to the other is multiply or divide.
If you'll post the coords of one or the other, I'll be happy to make the conversions for you.

Sure Belch, inject math into it and most of us will end up in the Bronx with a bow, scratching our heads and wondering why NYPD is rolling up on us!

I'm a complete idiot. You posted the coords in the first post and I totally missed it.
The Google Earth Coords are in degrees, minutes, seconds and decimal seconds:
37 37 06 90 N 118 49 23 16 W
The screen actually displays: 37º37'06.09"N 118º49'23.16W
Converted to decimal minutes, that would be: N37º 37.10150' W118º 49.3860'

It worked in Google earth and transferred that to my Garmin. Appreciate all the help. I got the Garmin Colorado with the built in US Topo Map on it. It seems to be "ok". I was wondering if I should spend the $80 and get the SD card for California/Nevada. Is it really worth it and is it a better map then I have right now?

The add-on maps are MUCH better than the base maps. I have Topo in my Vista and the same maps will load in your Colorado. HOWEVER! I WOULD NOT recommend the pre-loaded SD cards. Get the DVD, install it to your hard drive and load the maps to a blank SD card. That way, if you lose the SD card, you can load another one. The pre-loaded cards are much too limited. the cost to you is the same either way and I MUCH prefer the flexibility you get with the software on DVD.
For some screen clips of my Vista's maps, see this thread.

Another vote for the CD instead of the pre-loaded states.

Creat a Waypoint with your Garmin GPS or Land Mark with your Magellan GPS. Then Import it into Google Earth using a USB Cable.

The key is to use the format that's already there when you click on the yellow pushpin (Add Placemark). I just change the numbers.
Otherwise, I use MapSource and click View--> View in Google Earth. Everything should transfer from MapSource over to Google Earth. Of course, you have to have uploaded all your waypoints from the GPS into MapSource for that to work, but here's to hoping you've long since done that.

This is the format for google earth: it took me a while to figure it out. Then I didnt work with it for a while and forgot it the second time.
Here how it goes:
degrees space minute space second space N,degree space minute space second space W
If you dont get those spaces in the right place, google wont be able to read them.
