Default IPhone-Navigational/Compass Feature

I was eyeballin the new IPhone by Apple today at my local AT&T store. I was messing around with the compass navigational application that was on the phone. I noticed that the application had latitude and longitude coordinates right on the phone. Does anybody know how accurate these are with this application?

I have the Verizon "VZ Navigator" GPS Cell Phone. It displays and saves the coordinates, but I haven't figured out how to Go To anything but a street address. When my Cherokee drowned in a river at Liggett I sent my boy a help me message, and his phone would only go to the address of Fort Hunter Liggett. He did not bring his Garmin thinking that he could find me with the GPS message that I sent him.

Maybe we need to read the manual again, because my boy received the coordinates okay and they were displayed at the bottom of the GPS message I sent. The problem was that his GPS phone would only follow the roads on the map. There is no navagation arrow for going off road to the Coordinates displayed at the bottom of the message. Like I was saying, he didn't bring his Garmin, and he needed to enter the cell phone coordinates into his Garmin inorder to find me off road.

The coordinates are correct, and it receives the GPS signal down inside the truck below the dash. Works as good as a Garmin, maybe better.

Itdann & Long Haul

On that model of Jeep Cherokee the air intake is behind the headlight. Basically, what happened was when I realized that the Naci was deeper that I expected I tried to power my way through. Well, that pushed the water up higher into my air intake. The engine locked up, and only after I got it home and removed the spark plugs would the engine crank again. The oil was mixed with water also, so I had to take care of that also. Getting the engine going again wasn't too bad, but drying the carpeting took a couple of months. I ended up removing the seats and center counsel to get the carpet out of there to dry. If I had it to do over, I would have taken the carpet out in the beginning, rather than wait until it got sour.

When I complained to the Verison Store about the GPS Phone only going to an address, they told me to set it to "Pedestrian Mode". Changing the Navigation mode on the Verison is hard to do on the fly. The minus is not up front where it is easy to find, and I need my college student to change it for me. It's not practical to leave the phone in Pedestrian Mode all the time, because the real advantage of the GPS Phone is to use it as the Yellow Pages for shopping, or making hotel reservations. Or, just to find the nearest IN-N-OUT while returning home from hunting.

Now that I have been using the GPS Phone for 3 months, I couldn't live without it.

Attached is a picture of my wife's drowned Cherokee in the Naciememto River at FHL.

http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/...esized_pix.jpg

This is how my boy explained it:

Goto Navigation Options, then Preferences, then Navigation, then Trip Settings, then Vehicle Type:

The options are:

1. Car/Mototcycle
2. Truck
3. Bicycle
4. Pedestrian

I have not tried it out in the wilderness yet, so Good luck;

Forgot to mention that I had to buy a new Starter for the Jeep, becasue something shorted-out inside. Also, to load the Cherokee onto the rented Auto Transport Trailer, a second vehicle with a combination of several tow straps was needed. The second vehicle was located ahead of the tow vehicle with the long tow strap going under it and over the top of the transport trailer. To hook onto the Jeep front axle.
