What power source should I use to power my rss board?

My snapshot sniper runs off 1 9 volt batt.

I hear majority of people saying 4 C batts.

Would 4 AA batts work?

Which is the most economical, or most recomended???

Please advise, I am early in buiding my first cam.

rcornelius,

Sure, you can use a 4 AA supply for your board, and you can expect to get 2+ months battery life. Most people use the 4 C cell because you can use that all season long with a battery life of 8+ months.

Bill,

How long would the battery last if you used a 9 volt transistor battery.

One thing I have done is to solder a 9v connector to the post of the cell holders making sure to reverse the polarity so that when I match it to the 9v connector I have connected to my controll boards the polarity will be correct. This allows me to swap between AA's ,Gel Cells, 9V or C's if the battery holder already has the snap connector I can just plug directly to the holder. Again make sure polarity is correct.
For the most part I have pretty much settled on the C's for the pixcontrollers

I have gone to all 7.2 rc rechargeables 1500 mam to power my pixcontrolers
my cameras
my camcorders
and 2 together power my ir lights for my video units (14.4 volts)
I like to keep it all the same
easy to work with in the field
I can recharge them at home or off my truck in the field

Drifter 9...Where do you get your RC batteries from, and how do you connect them to the components? Are there readily available battery holders that can be easily wired to the componets?

I like to commonize all the batteries I use also...I solder 5 C batteries and wrap them with duct-tape into a 6volt battery cell...I use it for everything from IR to board and Cam. But the whole process of soldering and insulating so the wires won't touch and burn the pack, is kind of a pain...Rather just get some readily available RC batteries and be done with it, if there is a easy way to connect them to various components...

I know that we are getting a little off the subject but I wire all of my batteries the same and use a male female plug from Radio Shack so I can switch my batteries around from cam to Pixcontroller. I even set up a 9volt transistor battery connector just in case all of my c cell batteries are out to power up the pix board.

All4abuck
just do a search for( 7.2 volt ) on e-bay
I use kodak dc210 cameras they run on 6-8 volts,I have run them up to 12 volts. (the black ones have date)
if you look at a sony camcorder batt. its 7.2 volt, I cut open a junk one and wired in a pig tail.
the bigger ir lights are 12-15 volts (2 rc batts. in series 14.4 volt)
radio shack has the tamiya pig tails
the pixcontrolers are 5-15 volt
so you see 7.2 volt works out great for me

I use 6 AA's for mine. I am using rechargable and 4 of them didn't get it done when it got cold. 6 works great and takes up very little room.
