Here is a clip I got the first week out with my video unit made using Haymaker's board and an IR array. There was a clip earlier on the cam where the same buck triggered the cam and stood motionless for the full 30 seconds when he saw the cam. After the one minute delay, he had just started to move forward and seemed to have satisfied himself that there was no danger. I was happy to see him, but there is one much larger in the area and I'm still looking for him (pulled the cam for a while now due to woods traffic).
I'm new to using this type of viewer, so I'll pass on something I just learned in case anyone else is too. If you open the clip and then click the middle square at the bottom of the view screen, you can watch the clip at full screen instead of just the thumbnail view.

He's sure a good one. He is tip-toeing around something. Do you think he was able to hear something from your setup?

Dave,
That is VERY Sweet FOOTAGE... He's alert and aware but did not spook and run off... He looks like he's in the Timber. If so How far in? for the Hour of the Nite I am curious to his whereabouts in relation to your area.
I am always trying to analize there whereabouts and why there where there at and what there doing there.
No question he's a Pope and Young Deer I would peg him in the mid 140's.. VERY nice looking animal... Are you seeing alot of Rubs yet.
I am seeing about 75-100 in my area.... I have a Synthetic scrape going thats showing some really good Promise, But not sure whats hitting it. since I have no cameras in this area for paranoid reasons and Hunting reasons.
Great Deer Congrats on the footage and if theres 1 a good bit better. he must ve a real dandy. this Deer here has GREAT width to him

That is a nice Buck and some great footage on your video setup. I too would like to know what ir light you are using, and how you are setting everything up.

Thanks for all the postive comments on the clip.
SimpleArkansan,
He does seem very aware and nervous, but I'm sure he couldn't hear the cam. I stuffed it pretty full of foam and I couldn't hear it my self right next to it. I think it was a combination of two things- one that he saw the cam initially and stood for a minute and a half before moving toawrd it, and second that he is a really wary buck. I have watched him leave this same field in daylight and take two steps into the woods and then stand there for several minutes scanning the area before proceeding. I noticed he glances toward the cam several times, so I just think he's keeping an eye on it as he moves past.
OBH,
This location is only about 15 yards from the edge of an alfalfa field that he was feeding in regularly with some other bucks. The cam actually triggered right after him and I could see eyes moving up the field edge to a scrape, but couldn't make anything out. The big boy may have been there too. The tree in the middle of the screen to the left is where my stand is hung, but I don't expect to see much if any action. Worth a try, I figure. I went ahead and put the cam there because they usually stop using these areas around mid-September. Sure enough, they seemed to again this year. I'll go ahead and sit it though because the field saw so much activity a few weeks ago and I can cover almost any entrance route from where I am. It only takes once, I guess. As you asked, this area is littered with rubs in the 30 yard area adjacent to the woods.
All,
My setup is fairly simple and very similar to others you have seen here. I am using a Sony video cam from eBay, a TRV36, and the pixcontroller board with a 4 C cell power supply. The IR light is made from Agilent HSDL-4230 17 degree 875nm LED's using 47 ohm resistors and a Dale Wheat bigger board (72 LED's). The light is mounted below the cam box in a Hammond Mfg box with a red cover that passes IR light. I am powering the IR light with 10 D cell 7500 mAh NiMH batteries. I just wired two four cell holders and a two cell holder in series. I'll go throw some quick photos up on my webshots site.
Update: Some pics should be there now.

Very nice footage!! That is really cool to see! It seems like you have a pretty good stetup there. Are the IR videos much harder to make than the gamecams?
BOHUNTER, I believe you have the spread/beam length maximum mixed up. The creddited length of the beams can be longer than the spread but the credit for the spread cannot be greater than the longest beam if I remember correctly. Therefor he should be closer to 145 or so mayvbe a little more.

arlow,
The IR video unit is, in my opinion, easier to make than a digital with a slave flash and no IR. No hacking required and pretty easy to build. My biggest challenge was deciding how to fit everything in because I didn't plan on putting an IR unit on it until Archilochus came up with his discovery about the mid-switch position on the Sony cams. Then I had to figure out how to stuff a bunch more battery power in the case.
Really, give it a shot. You'll be pleasantly surprised how easy it is.

MR Pike,
You have got it going on. I saw your bowkill from this past Jan on you webpage - WOW! This video of the 9pt is outstanding. I told our cam builder I had to have a setup like that, so if you start getting requests for advise from Steve Holloway (aka BOHUNTER), you'll know where it's coming from. We have a few pics and video clips posted on our website also. Check it out if you get time, and if you get down to Alabama - look us up.

MrPike,
That was some outstanding footage. That buck could pass as a brother to the one I got pictures of. Thank you for sharing the footage with us.
