I'm in the middle of my first digital setup. I need several questions answered before I go further. Thanks in advance.
1- Does the lower leg of R-1 remain in its original place or is it lifted to attach to R-3?
2- Can the red LED that I lifted be replaced with the same LED that I used in my owl cameras that has a resistor built in?
3- I want to replace and move the test and delay switches. Are there any problems associated with this?

Skyhawk,
1) Yes lower leg remains. I'm not sure this step is even required anymore. You might ask Brian. I believe it had something to do w/ the rf portion.
2) Not sure but I would think it could be. You should have got a ultra bright led w/ the opto/x10 to use though.
3) no problem removing/relocating the on board push buttons. You can replace them with n/o mom pushbuttons...

Glad to see you are trying the X-10
1- remove the R-3, you do not need to attatch the r/leg
2- I prefer to use the ultra bright led mounted behind the fresnel lens (one less hole to put in your box.
3- I use an external on-off-on momentary for the test and delay, but you can move them without a problem.
good luck and if you have questions please post them

elk getter,
Hows that for similar replies.
Question though. Do you have to remove r3 or can it just be left as is. I remember Brian saying that this step was for the RF use of the x10. Not sure exactly.

Thanks for the help guys. Do I understand correctly that the bright LED will show sufficiently as a walk test indicator through the fresnel lens? I hadn't thought that far ahead. Thanks!!

too cool shorthorn.........
I have successfully built 21 units using the X-10 now and love it....
the unltra-bright led shows up great behind the fresnel lens,
If I had to use a different one I would definately mount it external and not an ultra bright, I think they are difficult to see in the daylight at an angle.....hope this helps
Oh yeah....if you use an on-off-on momentary, buy a quality switch, I have run into problems cused by the switch.
Short horn I believe you are suppsed to remove the r-3, at least that is the way I have been doing it.
