Tomorrow starts the second half of A22. I think I'll pass this weekend and hit it up next week while everyone's at work.

Went up today and checked my cam. I got up there about 0900 and it was warm. Looking at the NWS website it's been cold. It is extremely dry up there. Even walking in the pine needles sounded like walking on potato chips.

Cam didn't have many pictures on it. A couple of does and a spike with what appears to be does. I'm down to 1 cam. The other two died on me. I moved it to a new spot and we'll see what happens. Lots of sign in the dust.

Did see a doe on the way in. I first saw her she was standing in the road at about 40 yds and when I got where she left the road she was about 15 yds in the brush. She stood there and watched me drive by.

Good luck to those of you that go this weekend.

WASHINGTON, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ --The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: EXO-Tech Safety Harness

Units: About 90

Manufacturer: Gorilla Inc., of Flushing, Mich.

Hazard: The webbing of the waist belt on the safety harness is not routed through the lineman's loop located on the front of the harness near waist level. Since the loops are not properly anchored to the harness webbing but are attached only through stitching not intended to restrain a user during a fall, they that can pull away from the harness when force is applied, leaving the user unrestrained. In addition, the manufacturer of the harness used a previously untested carabiner connector located at the end of the tether at the back of harness, which is the portion of the tether that attaches to the tree.

Incidents/Injuries: No incidents were reported.
Description: This safety harness, used as a fall restraint for hunting, is comprised of two leg straps and two shoulder straps, which connect to a waist belt and padded back support. There is a long, black tether strap at the top rear of the safety harness, which has grey and red accents. The name EXO-Tech is located on the right front shoulder strap and the name Gorilla is located on the left front should strap both in white lettering. Similar to a shirt tag, there is a white manufacturing label on the inside of the back of the harness with the model number 45111 and manufacturing dates, 4/22/2009 or 6/26/2009. These are the only harnesses recalled.

This weeks WON paper had a pic of a nice buck and the hunter said he found a tick on his back. He got checked and had Lyme disease.

I've been tested twice out here in CA for Lyme. If you get a tick bite kill the tick and tape it to some paper so the doc can identify what kind of tick it was. There are several tests for different ticks.

I know several turkey hunters who have died from Lyme, it's not a nice way to go.

Permethrin spray and the Permethrin soak liquid is the best way to keep the ticks off you while in the field. I use liquid soak stuff, fill up a bucket with my clothes and dump er in. Cheaper and faster than spraying clothes all night.

I went out yesterday morning for the 4th time in the woods this season with my new Diamond-Bowtech "Razor Edge" bow. I only saw a spike while up in my treestand near a bunch of scrapes and rubs.
After completing some honey doos and taking a run to home depot I suited up again about 4. I got to within 100 yards of my stand when I saw a decent buck coming down the hill my stand was on. His nose was to the ground and 5 minutes later the spike came out sniffing for doe. I stepped on every mossy rock I could to avoid spooking anything and got to a tree stump with a tree right behind it. It was about 15 yards from where I saw the bucks. 10 minutes later a small doe comes down off the hill and walks down the trail. I expected a few more doe to follow her so I stayed on the stump. Then the bigger buck came crashing down looking for her and I got a shot off at about 30 yards. I hit low into the log he was standing over with a big thud. He went back the way he came and was huffing and puffing through the woods when he took a hard right though a bunch of fallen trees right to me. With about a minute of shootable light left he stepped in front of the tree at 20 yards and I took a shot. He crashed through the woods and continued to huff. I swore I saw him go ass over tea kettle but I saw another buck walking away 50 yards down the trail.
I found my arrow and just saw fur on the blades and no blood on the shaft or fletchings. I had borrowed a green light from my son and couldn't see so hot. When I got back to put my bow away I noticed that there was blood and fat in the broadhead. Putting my fears of the blair witch project and coyotes aside I went back in the dark and began to search in circles from where I found the arrow. I found a quarter size drop of blood 10 feet from where I found the arrow. Then a hands and knees track for a good half hour. Luckily the blood got trail kept getting bigger, until I almost stepped on his nose. I was so keyed into the blood trail I didn't look up to see him laying there about 100 yards from where I shot. The arrow hit him right across the throat at shoulder height when he pulled back from the string.
The joy was followed by a LONG drag that took me 2 and half hours. Luckily no coyotes, bear, or goblins got me. Just me the deer and the lord for a long long haul.

I have been working an area of D15 for a period of two years and am starting to get the deer figured out. I recently found a small area in a creek drainage that appears to be a crossroads or funnel for deer movement between hills. About half way up the dry creek bed (8 to 10 feet wide and 5 feet deep) there is ravine full of very thick brush that is perpendicular to the creek coming down the hill. The brush is so thick, the deer trails all go down towards the creek and merge into one trail along the side of the creek. Once past the ravine and brush, the trails split into several trails. I placed a camera at the intersection of these trails and have started lately to see a significant amount of deer activity (see photos below). I am also starting to see three different bucks in the photos.

Were would you set up a tree stand or ground blind? The wind blows up or down the creek due to thermals (east or west) and the deer are always on the south side of the creek. There is a significant hill above the creek on the south side and a recreational trail used by mountain bikers and hikers about 50 yards to the north. The creek bed is full of scrub oaks, but most are very small. A few larger trees are available but further down the creek bed. I am worried about putting a ground blind in the area because I only have a few days left and it might scare the deer out of the area for a while. Any suggestions?

Bye the way, the first picture is of the same buck that I missed earlier in the season.

Can anyone tell me what areas of A31 are open. This is my first year hunting the zone so I dont really know the area. I went into the ranger station off of tujunga canyon rd to find out what areas are closed and was told that the only open areas are north of hwy 14 and a small area around wrightwood. Is this true? Any info would be appreciated.

i love it.

just got back. empty handed i might add. but hunting with him is good time spent. he shot and wounded a sow. watching the dogs go, and running in the dark after ringing cowbells on dog collars was fun. sprinting down a tiny trail, i managed to gasp out, "do you have your service piece?" turns out that an overweight rancher is faster and more sprite than my SWAT brother and myself. he passed us on the thick section. my brother and i were worried about thorns, and this rancher kid just dove thru. he had this toy looking .22 that knocked the sow over. the dogs pounced and stretched the poor sow out in some crazy sadistic pilates yoga move. out comes this buck knife, throat cut, game over.

i need to move back to texas! those guys are crazy.
