Whats Your Favorite Gun for Backpack hunting

If you were or have spent a week hiking/ hunting in the woods what gun would you bring or have brought. Shotgun, .22, over under combo shotgun/rifle, or just a plain old .30-06?

What's the most versatile for different types of game?

Personally I'm torn between a 12 gauge, shells and slugs; or a .22 rifle for size and weight. With the .22 I might as well leave the bear tags behind but I could still take down a small pig or turkey with a clean placed shot.

Anyone have any cool stories?

It has several holes, broken zippers, buckles, etc. I also want them to make to waist belt tighter. Does anyone know how long it will take? I want my pack back by February for shed season. Also I know I have to pay the shipping, but how do I go about paying for the return shipping? Thanks in advance.

I get my very first BP hunt in this week and on a tight budget I found a very light Burris Landmark 20x for almost nothing on ebay and an old set of porro prism Triton 7x I am on a budget so being able to have these low quality optics is a blessing I do have a 3.5x 9 zeiss conquest scope on my rifle. As tight as money is right now I'm lucky to do even this, beter than nothing! So when things pick up I hope to upgrade my optics. So what do you guys use for optics on your bp hunts?
thanks mf
